The council released a study on Monday called "Toward a Post-American Europe," based on wide-ranging interviews and research conducted in the 27 EU member states. In it, the authors make a clear appeal to European leaders: This "fetishization" of the trans-Atlantic relationship must stop, write Jeremy Shapiro and Nick Witney. It is high time that Europe declare a new, "post-American" age and do away with old myths about the trans-Atlantic relationship.

Europe is still not communicating its' own struggles: for individual national sovereignty among nations within the Euro framework, the fascist oppression disguised as anti-communism or whatever it is today, "the Ancients" hatred for the nation state; the failure to recognize the now collapsed international monetary financial system; that will require the United States' leadership to counteract this collapse crisis. What can be done for Europe if it insists that if the Americans only did this or that?
