Gmail users are reporting an issue with Gmail, Google's email service, with Gmail apparently erroneously marking unread messages as read in many instances.

Although Google currently isn't reporting any disruptions or problems with Google Mail, you can check the status at Google's Apps Status Dashboard.

Follow the live Twitter feed below for more information on the bug.

According to TechCrunch, which reported the bug, the error "stems from a change Google made in how it treats the body of an e-mail through IMAP, although the company has yet to confirm this to us (or publicly)."

Have you experienced problems? Let us know below.

Yes I experienced it starting about 24 hours ago. Between meetings and other things it took me another 12 hours to admit to myself something serious was happening across my 2 business and 1 personal Google email accounts and it may be a hacker! I checked recent filters I had created as I thought something my be wrong, multiple checked my iPhone mail settings. Then finally decided I best change passwords on all accounts as I could see by the Gmail "Last account activity" log that its was some IMAP connections seemingly "Reading" all my mails. After that effort I finally searched Twitter and saw that it was a common error and thankfully not a hacker - I should have done that first.

It's odd that reports say Google has not acknowledged the problem. Real waste of time.
