Coburn

The Marine Corps Times:

Thirteen major military and veterans groups have joined forces to try to force one senator -- Republican Tom Coburn of Oklahoma -- to release a hold that he has placed on a major veterans benefits bill.

Coburn has been identified by Senate aides as the lawmaker preventing consideration of S 1963, the Veterans' Caregiver and Omnibus Health Benefits Act of 2009, by using an informal but legal practice of putting a hold on a bill.

Sen.Tom "Dr.No"Coburn R.Oklahoma.So now Dr.No.is sitting on a Veterans benefits Bill
until he finds out how it will be paid for?I notice he didn't serve in the Military of our country.
How about if he looks around when he goes out of his door and maybe remembers where a great
number of young men his age were while he was playing touchy feely in college.
Maybe Tom had members of his family involved in WWII or WWI.Perhaps he could imagine
all of the things our countrymen endured in the name of service to our country throughout
history. Then perhaps He could really understand what all Americans owe our veterans.
A few basic benifits are a small start at paying them back.

Benefits for the victims of the Fort Hood disaster may very well be held up because of Coburn's HOLD.

Why is one person allowed to HOLD a bill up like this?

How about charging either the member of Congress, or their party a flat fee for every day they keep a hold in place?

Something needs to knock the fence sitters off of their lofty little perches. Cash might be the key.

This guy has never served one day in military service for his country and yet thinks he has the right to keep programs that will help military members or their families from becoming law and yet he professes to be a Godly man? This man is a liar and a hypocrite. How dare he think he can put himself above real heros.

Coburn is all about anonymous hold. Helps him make it during those dark lonely nights at the C street house.

If you would like to sign VoteVets' petition against Sen. Coburn's hold, go to:

Anonymous holds and anonymous votes are hogwash. Congress needs to take responsibility, that means each member, for what they say and do while they represent constituents. No more anonymity !!!

Third times a charm.

Checked out Coburn's site and the problems he says he has with the bill makes me wonder why, if true, the others have a problem with his amendments. He want to include all vets not just those injured since Sept 1, 2001 and wants to make sure it is fully funded so everyone gets the benefits promised without raising taxes or increasing costs to vets. If you lost a leg in 1991, shouldn't you get the same assistance as someone who lost theirs in 2005. Shouldn't we actually have the money to pay for what we're promising.

Seems like this may be a case of Congress passing a bill to look good to their voters but not actually doing anything to help those they said their were helping.

How typical of the sunshine patriots, aka the current Republican Party! In the name of pushing whatever passes for their agenda, they will not fund a bill that helps the veterans that they so loudly claim to support! Hypocrisy in action!
