I have to admit ambivalence here. I recognize the value of promotion, and it is always good to get a recommendation from a trusted source. The problem is that Oprah, now B&N, and others end up choosing what America reads. I don't think this is necessarily good for anyone. As an avid reader, few pleasures exceed the discovery of a great book.

I'd just as soon dig for my own treasures, rather than have them already pre-determined for me.
