Virtually every novelist in America fantasizes about being picked to appear on Oprah Winfrey's talk show. But now an increasing number of writers have discovered a new champion: Glenn Beck, the outspoken media darling of populist conservatism.

The mere act of putting Oprah in the same orbit with Beck is rather disturbing.
The two of them are in 2 separate universes. Glenn's persona, at least publically, seems to be studied negativity. Purposeful meanness.
Oprah is always pushing a positive message of healing and trying to be the best person you can. Her public persona is also deliberately fashioned, and has made her a billionaire.
I doubt if Glenn's studied negativity will ever bring him that kind of success, and I'm glad about that. Most Americans will not buy long-term negativity. We want to cry sometimes, but not all the time.
If you listen to Limbaugh, et al you will hear the dittoheads and other cons calling in bragging about how they bought 10-20 and more copies to give to their liberal co-workers and friends to 'set them straight'
Additionally, the right wing think tanks by the books by the crate,
And of course, the best seller lists aren't totally based on actual book sales.
The books Oprah sells are sold one at a time, as are the best selling books by Liberals and Democrats.

I think people are getting a little caught up in the term "best seller". For most lists, this means only a few thousand copies sold.
I noticed 2 things about this article. I didn't see many numbers to compare numbers of books sold, and most of the authors Beck was "recommending" are already bestselling authors, and would have probably sold well anyway. In fact, I've bought many of them myself, while totally unaware that Beck was involved. I guess these authors say, if there's a chance that Beck is selling books, "Why not go on?"
But let's be honest, the notion that Beck sells anywhere near the number of books that Oprah sells, or has sold, is ludicrous, at best.
I've read some of those authors mentioned in the article. I won't be reading them again. I won't spend my money on any book by an author who would appear with Glenn Beck.

WOW ! I bet this really gets the liberal haters juiced ! It seems to really upset some that Beck is so successful. Not only is his radio program and his talk show on FOX News channel doing great but he has also had great success with his book sales. I'm always happy to see more people reading so I'm glad that these writers and novelists have a place to showcase their work. Glad to see they're all laughing on the way to the bank.
P.S. I'm sure Beck and FOX NEWS are as always appreciative of the free press. With every story hp and other liberal media blogs run attacking them the more their ratings, sales and popularity goes up. THANKS, for being a part of this !
No, it gets the right-wingers juiced because they cannot stand any kind of scrutiny or criticism. Yours is a classic case of projection -- projecting upon others that which you actually feel and think.
I can care less about Glenn Beck and any book he promotes for the simple reason that right-wingers don't read much, which makes them less likely to think like an intellectual. They are loud-mouthed, ignor@nt, selfish, narrow-minded tools with a penchant for cognitive dissonance, and cannot stand the fact that they are constantly outsmarted by progressives and liberals. This is the reason why we so often see remarks like ldmason45's. It's pure projection mixed with resentment.
Does anyone else find it bizarre that people on the right derive any joy they have in life (and this includes Beck) from how they THINK "liberuls" will react to what the right thinks is good news.
In this case, the fact is that, millions upon millions more in book sales can be attributed to liberals, and not just those books pushed by Oprah.
The rights obsession with what "libruls" think is really kind of pathetic, and......childish.
Beck sells books. Good. Buy a book. Be happy. Forget about the "haters" for a few minutes, and feel secure in the knowledge that the vast majority of them couldn't care less if Glenn sells books.
Oh please......every talk show host has juice when it comes to selling books...that's why authors go on shows to promote. Beck has no where near Oprah's clout at her prime. Beck appeals to a niche crowd who aren't afraid of having a nationally recognized hate-monger's stench on their covers and unfortunately in America there is a market for those folks. Oprah is in class by herself and for a time ruled over the most powerful demographic in media.....women 18-44.
