What's Your Reaction?

We have to say, Japan's Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki seem crazy about each other. The recently elected prime minister has called his wife his "sun," saying in 2002 "I feel relieved when I get home...she is like an energy-refueling base."

The couple is often spotted out holding hands and beaming at each other. Sometimes the Hatoyamas even sport coordinated ensembles. As recently named "Best Jeanist" Miyuki recalled, she and her husband were both wearing denim when they met at Stanford University in 1975.

They're also not afraid to get goofy. Watch them dance down the runway at a recent fashion show. Additionally, Miyuki also doesn't lack for color. She has claimed she rode a UFO to Venus, saying her husband would understand. "He would surely say 'Oh, that's great.'"

It's nice to see world leaders showing some affection - it's a nice change

Especially in an Asian culture, this is a big, big change. I think that in Saudi Arabia it is still illegal for a man and a woman to hold hands in public, although two men walking down the street holding hands is acceptable.

kindness and affection are good anywhere you can find it, in any form.

The Prime Minister and his wife are not Japan's "first couple"

That would be the Emperor and Empress

Contrary to misguided American journalists' writings, NO prime minister's wife is the "First Lady."

"First Lady" is the honorific given to the wife of a head of STATE in a republican form of government.

A prime minister is head of GOVERNMENT, not state.

It seems that we have several world leaders who adore their partners and aren't afraid to show it.

Great examples.

Nice. You don't see a lot of PDA in Japan. My wife's from Japan, and she thinks is funny, when I give hugs to the in-laws.

I used to live in Japan for 2 years, and have to say that all this PDA is rare over there!
Good for them, they are giving a good example for the nation, which has been so oppressed about matters of the heard!

I hope the younger generation will feel more and more comfortable expressing their feelings and emotions with no shame or guilt!

Bravo !

Seattle....why must you compare. They are a delightful and cute couple period. We also have a delightful good looking couple. But these two Japanese are cute and adorable and refreshing. Just leave it at that won't you. I

I'd love to hear their love story beginning when they met as students at Stanford University.

Japanese, and other Asian countries are not really into PDA. It isn't discouraged, but it isn't encouraged either. Intimacy is a private thing, between couples, behind closed doors, so to speak. A lot of "Love Hotels" in Japan are very popular because couples, married or not, want some privacy especially if they're living with extended family.

Where I came from, holding hands, laying your head on your boyfriend's shoulder...subtle romantic gestures are nice, but french kissing? No-no.
