Meet the White House honeybee. Numbering more than 65,000 at one point, the bees produced a bumper crop of honey this year, the first time honey has ever been made on White House grounds. The hive, located on the South Lawn, is a key part of First Lady Michelle Obama's organic kitchen garden project.

Whatever.

Meet the White House Bedbugs....

This is getting a bit tiresome. Who gives a darn?

Beekeeping has been done for thousands of years. The Obama bees must be really special.

Their choice of commercial style beehives leaves a lot to be desired.

Up next...the White House Cockroaches...stay tuned....

If your town permits private beekeeping , you can purchase the bees online and set up your own hive for honey production. You just need to be willing to take the time to manage the hive.

You mean they don't use pesticides OR herbicides at the WH (both deadly to bees)?

I am very impressed.

It's little things like this that tells me that the Obamas "get it".

Nice ideas, but if we all could have the labor and grounds that the first family and people like Martha Stewart have at their disposal a lot of America would love to do these things. Unfortunately little things like having more than one job takes up a lot of the average person's time. Just curious as I have no idea, but did the Obamas have an organic garden, bees, chickens, etc in Chicago?

You don't have to live in the White House to own a bee hive or plant some vegetables.
