Progress Illinois:

If there's one thing observers of Illinois politics can agree on, it's that next year's state budget deficit is going to be extraordinary. Not only are billions in federal stimulus money scheduled to dry up, but state officials will soon have to pay out $3.5 billion in pension notes and cover $3.9 billion in unpaid obligations from the current fiscal year.

Both parties have been playing "let's pretend" long enough. A tax increase is absolutely necessary and both parties have to get behind it.

So far, our legislators have demonstrated that their political games are more important to them than the well-being of the citizens they were elected to represent. If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem. It's time to clean house.
