Isabel Toledo Describes New Michelle Obama Dress: "It's Very Marilyn Monroe" (VIDEO)

Designer Isabel Toledo presented her spring collection in D.C. on Wednesday night and in an interview with Politico, Toledo dropped hints about a new dress of hers that has found her way into Michelle Obama's closet. "She has a new piece of mine that's all pleated jersey, in black," Toledo said. "It's very Marilyn Monroe, actually. It has a beautiful flow. But we don't know what it's for." Toledo and her husband Ruben also reflected on their success nearly one year after Michelle Obama first donned her inaugural outfit.

The designer also revealed that she stayed home during the inauguration: "I was invited, but I stayed with my staff because we wanted to enjoy it all together."

Are you familiar with Marilyn Monroe's personal style or only what vision you have of her movie roles? If you look at her personal style you will find that this is quite a compliment to both. Michelle Obama likes to wear dresses that are often reminiscent of the '50's. The shirtwaist cut, the floral prints, scooped necks, little sweaters and jackets over dresses...and sleeveless...yes sleeveless. Monroe's style was iconic in fashion, not just iconic sexuality

I believe she also has her own "flagship" boutique on Jefferson in Chicago (near West side).
Personally, I like her looks - it's something different, non cookie cutter. But clearly just my opinion.

That inaugural outfit was just awful...like it needed to go back to the consignment shop! And, totally inappropriate...it looked like vintage 60's brocade upholstery fabric! Please...she was the only woman that day not wearing an overcoat in the blustery, freezing cold!

Is this the woman who created that monstrosity for the inauguration? Yuck! Michelle Obama is not Marilyn Monroe. But a woman of womanly beauty whose particular beauty deserves to be properly accented, both in color and style. And no one should have to explain it. A picture is worth a thousand words.
