Fuzzy Math Behind Palin Book

Sarah Palin must be praying that her Monday appearance on Oprah will lead to a slot on the talk show maven's book list. In spite of a rumored 400,000-plus first print run for Palin’s memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life, which comes out Tuesday, November 17, the Daily Finance crunches a slew of numbers to reveal that HarperCollins might not want to bank on the book. Palin made the book deal last May, has received a $1.25 million retainer, and is expected to receive up to a $7 million advance, by the time Going Rogue arrives next week. Factoring in actual versus projected print runs for paperback and hardcover copies, Amazon—Wal-Mart—Target discount sales, ghostwriting fees, and the potential total payment to Palin, the Daily Finance claims that HarperCollins will need to sell more than 400,000 copies of the book just to break even—and that’s only if Palin’s total advance was a measly $5 million.

Reading some of the comments, it's clear you are not familiar with the Gridiron Dinner.

"the exclusive event is put on by a group of top Washington journalists"

Okay sports fan... which speech will Palin give at the gridiron dinner?

Will it be Palin's VP Concession speech or Palin's VP winning speech or will it be Palin's Republican Governors Association speech which was plagiarized from Palin's VP concession and winning speech?

Or will Palin us her governor's "I have a dream for Alaska so I am quitting speech", but then again it could be her Hong Kong speech.

Whatever speech Palin uses at the gridiron dinner will be unknown to the American public since 99% of Palin's speeches are verboten (forbidden) to the press, media, friends and foes of Palin. As usual, there will be no recording devices, cell phones, smoke signals, and whatever communication devices known to man allowed either.

For the last one, the Wisconsin RTL speech, she says the SPONSORS were the ones who demanded the extreme security restrictions, not her or her people.

Yeah, right. Didn't the exact same thing happen at that speech in Hong Kong? Seems awfully coincidental that a bunch of investor geeks and a Right To Life organization would have the same thoughts about "no media, no cameras, no food, no drink, no baby carriages".

And I thought it was AWFULLY odd that a pro-Palin Tweeter got in with his Blackberry or whatever and sent all these messages out to the Twitterosphere/blogosphere? Can anyone say "shill"?

Firstly, it should be sports fans: Will she show up or won't she.
This event is put on by top Washington journalists!!
Journalists and Palin in the same room! Would be rather difficult for her to say 'No media''!!!

Did she really accept or will this be another case of cold feet where her handlers say they never agreed to anything.

Perhaps with no cameras,no recording devices and no media, she will finally just go away

It must be terribly hard for the organizers. If they get her to speak before the meal everyone will lose their appetite. If they get her to speak after the meal everyone will throw up.

Do you have to leave your shoes at the door?

The article did not mention any rules about no recording devices, cameras, etc. Will she be able to insist on such rules at an event like this?
