NEW YORK - Rihanna on Friday described the horror she felt as her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was biting and punching her during a violent argument in February, saying she saw "no soul in his eyes."

"There was no person when I looked at him," the 21-year-old singer recalled during the second installment of an interview airing on ABC's "Good Morning America." "He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank."

Brown was arrested Feb. 8, hours after he was accused of beating Rihanna after the two argued over another woman. He later pleaded guilty to felony assault.

In the interview, Rihanna, who is no longer with Brown, described him as "definitely my first big love." She said their relationship was intense.

"The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other -- equally as dangerous," she said. "It was a bit of an obsession almost."

WATCH:

The attack occurred in Los Angeles' Hancock Park neighborhood as Brown drove a rented sports car. She said it was triggered when she saw a text message on his phone from another woman and confronted him about it. She said he lied about it and "I wouldn't drop it."

A search warrant affidavit filed in the case stated that Brown hit, choked and bit Rihanna and tried at one point to push her from the car.

"It was ugly," she said.

During the beating, the singer said she had no idea how it would end: "That's all I kept thinking the whole time, 'When is it going to stop? When is it going to stop?'"

Brown was sentenced to five years' probation, six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling after he pleaded guilty to felony assault.

In portions of the interview aired Thursday, Rihanna warned other women facing domestic violence to not let themselves become blinded by love. She also said she regretted going back to Brown, saying it sent the wrong message to her fans.

Brown, 20, has apologized to fans and has said he has repeatedly apologized to Rihanna for the attack. Brown will recount his perspective in an interview to air Friday on MTV.

Despite the beating, Rihanna said she still cares about Brown.

"I don't hate him at all," she said. "I actually love and care about him and I'm concerned about him doing well. I want him to do well -- have a great career, have a great life, and grow up. Just take this as something that you had to go through to grow up and learn."

Rihanna's interview coincides with the debut of her new single, "Russian Roulette," from her upcoming album, "Rated R." More of the ABC interview will be included in Friday evening's news magazine "20/20."

The hypocrisy of some of the entertainment media giant naysayers on the Chris Brown/Rihanna "incident" have REALLY got me miffed! Both Oprah and Wendy Williams have both "gone in" HARD on Chris Brown for beating Rihanna! However, BOTH Oprah and Wendy Williams didn't say a word about domestic violence or otherwise assaulting women when they had christian music singer Bebe Winans and rapper Treach (from rap group Naughty by Nature) on their shows respectively!!! In fact, they were both palling around and yucking it up with both abusers as if nothing ever happened - when they both knew it did! Even rapper Jay-Z (friend, collaborator, and record label exec) had his "tough talk" broadcast accross the media concerning Chris Brown ( He "allegedly said, "Chris is a walking dead man! He messed with the wrong crew!"). However THIS ---> http://www.trendyink.net/blog/2008/05/06/jay-z-hits-women/

Like I’ve said before, I am so very proud of both Chris Brown and Rihanna for speaking out on the heinous crime of domestic violence – no matter the why’s, how’s and when’s of it all. We VERY RARELY get to hear from the abuser concerning his (or her) contribution to the “incident”, how he feels about it, his remorse, his conviction of the crime, and his pennance to right the wrongs. What’s even better here in the Chris Brown / Rihanna saga is that we also get to see the transgressor (Chris Brown) redeem himself in a VERY public fashion by pleading for forgiveness (over & over & over…) and the opportunity for redemption. I can’t EVER remember a celebrity who has done such a wrong and then has humbly, vulnerably, and sacrificially put all that he has/is at the feet of the pitchforked and heavily opinionated, fickle public. And he’s doing it all at just 20 years old! This young man really is a MAN – who had a moment! And now he’s coming back to himself – renewed and retooled. As long as he continues to show and prove (and not continually apologize) his willingness and ability to change, learn and grow from the “incident”, then he will have my $15 on 12/08/09 and my continued support and prayers (and Rihanna too!).

If anyone still would like to berate, hound and otherwise make Chris Brown’s life and career miserable because of an admitted “mistake” that he is currently paying the price for (for now and many years to come most likely), then they should spread the hate around then. And there’s plenty of spreading to do. If we are all supposed to hate on and boycott Chris Brown, then let’s add these other celebrities to the list also: r&b singer JOE; rapper DR. DRE; actor/singer TERRENCE HOWARD; actor/talent judge DAVID HASSELHOFF; actor CHRISTIAN BALE; singer PAUL MCCARTNEY; actor WESLEY SNIPES (beat actress Halle Berry); rapper TREACH (from Naughty by Nature beat “Pepa” from Salt N Pepa); actor TOM SIZEMORE; actor BILL MURRAY; football player SEAN MERRIMAN; christian singer BEBE WINANS; “Soul Train” host DON CORNELIUS; “Girls Gone Wild” founder JOE FRANCIS; child actor GARY COLEMAN; singer AXL ROSE; basketball players DELONTE WEST & DENNIS RODMAN; singer BOBBY BROWN; singer TYRESE (accused of Punching Pregnant Girlfriend); singer JAMES BROWN; actor DARIUS MCCRARY (Eddie Winslow from “Family Matters”); singer SCOTT STAPP (Creed); sports announcer JIM LAMPLEY; baseball player DMITRI YOUNG and the list goes on & on & on…

You are right. The difference is that unless you see pictures of a horrible near-fatal beating, it's hard to really know what celebrity did what exactly and what's rumors or false allegations.

Also, you can respect and enjoy a person's art, without trying to dismiss them committing a horrible crime as "having a moment."

Interesting comment coming from The very Saintly Rihanna..I wonder if her brother felt "she had no soul in her eye" when she hit him across the head with a glass bottle? Ah,yes to all of you who have bought her ACT,Rihanna admitted in Complex magazine that she hit her OWN brother with a glass bottle and left him scarred........

I was thoroughly disgusted by her interview. this "PollyPurebred" act was tiresome. Rihanna, your 15 minuets are up, because for as many people that are on this thread talking about how brave you are, there just as many and more that will NEVER listen to or buy your music again. this interview was all about your "sponsors" and their bottom line with consumers.

Well it's a big problem mainly becasue men don't take it seriously.Even the women that go through it are blamed for not leaving or blamed for inciting the violence; like an unwanted pregnancy it's treated as the woman's problem.

Anecdotally recently in an electrical supply store and the proprietor made some "jokey" (derogatory) comment about women when I asked him the price for the items I was purchasing...his staffer piped in "do you want me to beat her?...should I get the whip?" The other customers (all men) laughed. Seriously; they were all AA and apparently it was funny to joke about beating your female customer for asking a question. He wasn't laughing for long, suffice it to say I really ripped into him.

It is good that she learned something young and escaped alive--- the lesson that a young beautiful girl, especially a monetarily successful girl, in this culture is nothing but prey.

Young girls are conditioned (by religion-supported patriarchy) to think that a man will love them and value them. The reality is that they will be used. Any time that they are not a male-ego-enhancing or a male monetary asset, they will be discarded, possibly violently.

It was wrong of Chris to beat RiRi, However, I don't buy the angel in white routine during the interview. Rihana is no saint. There are nekid pictures of her all over the internet. She should not have to further trash Chris Brown to sell her records. He has already been punished by the courts.

Chris Brown is not the victim.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:25 AM on 11/08/2009

Right. Let's not forget the sanctity of victim. Ever seen Straw Dogs?
Anyway, fair enough. He dared touch the Princess, she'll ruin his career. I would have done the same.

I watched the interview and was impressed. I'd never heard her interviewed before and I thought she did well, especially given the difficult subject matter.

To all those who says she should be quiet ... I ask why? Everyone one else talked about her situation, she has every right to talk about her own experiences. If you don't want to hear it don't listen. I think all the other people who weren't involved should stop talking about it ... but she can talk about it all she likes as far as I'm concerned. It's her life. Her story.

Give it a break, Rihanna. You and Chris need to both shut up on the subject. You are becoming waterlogged and deadly dull.

All you had to do was not click on the story and not read about the "waterlogged" and "dull" issue of domestic violence. Quit acting as though it's all so beneath you.

It's the one and only time she's talked about it. What's your problem? Everyone else can talk about it but she can't? I found the interview well done and respectful, and honest.

Very impressed with this young lady, after watching interview on 20/20. At such a young age, she is very mature.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:07 AM on 11/07/2009

Mature? Maturity is having enough self esteem to not walk back into an abusive relationship.

She's very immature.

Long before the first blow an abuser has worked to diminish the victim's self esteem and cut them off from people who could recognize the problem. By the time they are actually being beaten the abuser has convinced them that they are worthless and unworthy of being appreciated by any other man and that they should be grateful that the abuser keeps them.

DV abuse victims are first and foremost victims of brainwashing, their self esteem stripped away so that they will stay with the abuser.

DV victims need tons of therapy to see how and what was taken from them and rebuild it.

It was brave of her to speak on the subject since their self esteem has been denigrated and they are open to attacks from both men and women who don't understand the process of victimization and are uncomfortable with the concept that it might happen to themselves or their own loved ones.

Being willing to speak out and help someone else is a sign of maturity.

Why is it I have never seen a picture of Rihanna's beaten face without the TMZ logo making it look worse than it was? Has anyone ever seen a picture of Rihanna's face without the TMZ logo spread across?

Can you say album promotion marketing tour? According to media reports, this is the same young woman refused to speak or meet with her parents after the incident took place but now feels comfortable sharing details on national TV just prior to her album's release. During the interview she talks about wanting to be a positive role model for young women but for the past several months every photo of her shows her in some sort of S & M get-up. Lord, I am so thankful that my 15 year old daughter fell out of love with both Rhianna and Chris B. - seeing them for the over-rated, media-hyped, celebrated losers they really are.

You obviously didn't watch the interview---her dad used to beat her mother viciously when she was young---what would she have to gain from talking to her parents about it? They also probably rely on her financially----their counsel was probably "keep it quiet". Or worse, they blamed her for the violence. Her story is an excellent insight into domestic violence among young adults and may serve to help save a young woman from further violence, and save a young man from himself. Watch the video before you post my dear.

She's an entertainer, her job is to promote her album. No interviewer was going to leave the subject alone on her publicity tour, so she probably decided to speak, as much as she can, on her own terms.

You nailed it. She doesn't want to talk about this again, so get it over with. Want to know more, dig up my ABC interview. I'm done with that. Same thing with Whitney and Bobby and Chris and Mike Tyson, etc. The public's ghoulish and disrespectful need to interfere into celebrities private lives, because they bought a CD or paid for a ticket, will not be satisfied until they literally spill their guts out on primetime TV.

That's why I don't understand why anybody would want to be famous????

she didn't talk about that. She pretty much had to talk about it sometime, given that she's famous. I saw the interview and thought it was well done ... and I say that as an older woman who isn't a fan of her music, altho "umbrella" is kinda catchy ... even for this old broad.

I listened to the entire interview. I hope and pray, she has helped out women who are beat up on a daily basis. Sounds to me, he almost killed her, that was how close she was to death. His eyes! How scary.
I hope and pray Chris Brown, the beater, doesn't come after her. She had a lot of courage.
