What's Your Reaction?

CNN's Nancy Grace reports on the tragic story of the New Mexico boy, 11, who made a frantic 911 call to report that he had shot his father in the back of the head. The shooting was witnessed by his six-year-old sister, according to police. Apparently the boy was angry at his father for being grounded. He initially told the 911 operator that his father was asleep, but then confessed to shooting him. CNN describes the 911 call as "frantic."

So a father has loaded guns in the house UNLOCKED. Secondly he obviously never taught his son about proper care and use of weapons. This one incident shows EVERYTHING that is wrong with NRA arguments about gun ownership. FAR more innocents die with personal weapons than do criminals, mostly through accidents.

This boy just threw his life away. Question is, how much did he really know about what he was doing? Also, how abusive was his father? I can't imagine this just came out of nowhere from being grounded.

wow this childs life is over because no one taught him better ways to problem solving. A gun was in the house because adults saw no other way to teach problem solving.

I hate these for profit news shows who use tragedies and feign emotions to sell advertising. This lady is the worse, her voice is like finger nails on a chalkboard. It is all a show. I don't think they even care about the people involved.

But don't you see? Guns don't kill people. 10-year-olds kill people.

Kids should never touch guns, unless they pry them from our cold dead hands.

The truth will come out .. as to what really was going on in that family

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:26 AM on 11/10/2009

Unfortunately, I think what was really going on in that family was an unthinking ten-year-old who knew where his dad kept the gun.

Our second amendment in the Bill of Rights is the one that guarantees all the other ones. Current year of the Gregorian calendar has exactly what import?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:00 AM on 11/10/2009

Realistically, does it? I mean, my whole town couldn't take out a tank or APC with all the guns in the city limits. Even the Taliban don't use guns to destroy armored vehicles. They use IEDs. If the government wanted to enforce its will on a state with armor and aircraft, I don't think all the automatic weapons in soldier of fortune magazine would make a difference.

So are you saying we should change the 2nd Amendment to allow folks to own IEDs or at least high end RPGs?

Or rather do you think that what guarantees our rights is ACTUALLY the active participation in government by a well informed populace?

Which really makes more sense?

That's a different way of looking at it. I thought it was the first amendment and freedom of the press that guaranteed our rights. I thought it was an informed population that kept us free, not an armed and dangerous one.

Agreed...there was a time when bearing arms was the only way people knew how to protect themselves and their goods...centuries ago! This goes for all countries, why the heII are people around the world still fighting with weapons, like a bunch of barbarians, it has never been a means to justify the end, no matter how history tries to glorify it.

This is sad . . . very very sad.

Tell me again that people kill people not guns!!! Yeh right!!!

Without gun(s) around, the kid would have shouted, yelled, called him names etc. etc., but the father
would still be alive.

Gun is a machine with only one design and purpose, launch a projectile at high speed. PERIOD.

You are so absofukinlootly right. Without the guns around, the boy would have had a major tantrum or some other non-lethal reaction. The politics of all this is killing people and ruining lives.

Sometimes you need no launch a projectile at high speed.
