Huckabee

POLITICO:

The day the Gallup Organization confirmed Mike Huckabee's status as the pollsters' front-runner for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, the former Arkansas governor was slouched in the back of his tour bus, somewhere between Harrisburg and Allentown, Pa., talking about the frustrations of not being taken seriously.

"I'm a very serious person," he said. "I may not be dour, but I'm serious.

Fuzzy Math Behind Palin Book

Sarah Palin must be praying that her Monday appearance on Oprah will lead to a slot on the talk show maven's book list. In spite of a rumored 400,000-plus first print run for Palin’s memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life, which comes out Tuesday, November 17, the Daily Finance crunches a slew of numbers to reveal that HarperCollins might not want to bank on the book. Palin made the book deal last May, has received a $1.25 million retainer, and is expected to receive up to a $7 million advance, by the time Going Rogue arrives next week. Factoring in actual versus projected print runs for paperback and hardcover copies, Amazon—Wal-Mart—Target discount sales, ghostwriting fees, and the potential total payment to Palin, the Daily Finance claims that HarperCollins will need to sell more than 400,000 copies of the book just to break even—and that’s only if Palin’s total advance was a measly $5 million.

I used to think Huckabee was a reasonable man until I read his thoughtless, insensitive remarks after Teddy Kennedy's death. I sent him an email expressing my outrage at him for saying those things, received a "thanks for writing" and then was promptly inundated with requests for money for him. Quite frankly, I thought, "Did you even READ what I said? I was criticizing you, you fear-mongering jerk, not agreeing with you!" Well, of course, he doesn't read those emails and I am sure if he has any staffers who do he will never know my objections because they would not let him see them. He will never get a penny of my money and certainly never again my respect.

Gallup’s survey of Republicans found that 71 percent would consider voting for him, more than for Palin, Romney or others.

Huckabee would be a huge asset to Palin if he would become her running mate. As a contender for the nomination he is Palin's biggest threat. Country Club Republicans are embarrassed by Huckabee and prefer the photogenic empty suit, Romney. Not welcome in either camp, I'm not surprised Huckabee is frustrated.

I used to think Huckabee was that rare thing - a reasonable conservative - a populist Buckley. But then he became a TV host for FOX. Now he's spent - a presidential victory just ain't happening for anyone who has been on TV today.

Back in 2008 - the G.O.P. seemed to have everything they wanted in Huckabee - real conservative credibility (not fake like Bush/Ashcroft), executive - outsider experience, a likable, reasonable guy - a "preacher"/conservative version of Bill Clinton. But lately Republicans have seemed a bit self destructive and so for reasons that I don't understand they rejected Huckabee in favor of anyone but Huckabee and wound up with mavericky John McCain - who has always been a poor campaigner and risk taker - someone who is not personally conservative and not reliably Republican. And, of course, McCain lost the election by just plain being beaten by a better candidate and a better team.

But then Huck went on TV and on TV - like all of the FOX guys trying to get ratings he has said a lot of stupid stuff that doesn't pass candidate muster and all that stupid stuff will come back to haunt him.

He's sunk.

I tried to listen to him back before the election and got lost in the morass of his mind. The guy doesn't make sense.

lol I agree. They should spend every penny donated to them by their wingnut followers on frivolous law suits. But they will probably set some aside for $1500 Louis Vuitton purses and high heels for Palin's seven year old daughter.

Huckabee now eschewing everything he brought to the Republican party, especially the religious extremism which now defines them.

You can fool the Goofy Odd Party, but Democrats know you haven't changed your spots.

I only have one question for Huckebee and Palin too:

Do you think God has a warped sense of humor by creating hermaphrodites
or does he just want to mess with our minds?

I can not wait for Huckabee and Romney to square off over who is more Christian than the other. Huckabee with his 'worldly possesions means Jesus loves me more' and Romney with his 'Jesus underwear and horses'.

Get your popcorn ready.
