Run away from this book as fast as you can. Bob Greene is clueless about how to prevent "Type II Diabetes." His daily menu is low-fat and way too high in carbohydrates. People with severe enough glucose-intolerance to have the chronically high blood sugars that earn them the diagnosis of "Type II Diabetes" are eating too many carbohydrates. Eliminate them, and the blood sugar will normalize. I was on the verge of being one of those poor souls who ended up with lifetime health problems from paying attention to the medical establishment's constant low-fat mantra. 10 years ago, I was very sick, but came upon some real science that made sense, switched to a high-fat, ultra-low carb diet, and avoided the horrible conditions that ruined the health of my father and grand-father.
Drs. Atkins, Bernstein, and Workman have it right. Read them and Gary Taubes. Good luck preventing and/or reversing this completely avoidable condition.

Bob Greene really doesn't know what he is talking about.
People with prediabetes will rarely have any symptoms that he talks about. People can have diabetes for 10-15 years without any symptoms. People with prediabetes do not get the symptoms of diabetes.
He talks about limiting sugar and it is not the sugar that causes your risk for diabetes to increase. When will people truly understand that it is the carbohydrates not the sugars that cause the problems.
All cabohydrates turn into sugar, so if you are just looking at the sugar you miss 60% of what raises blood sugar. So a sugar-free product may not have any sugar, but it could have more carbohydrates that will raise your glucose more than if you ate the same product that was not sugar-free.

Let's hope people are not waiting for the symptoms to take action. If you are a few pounds overweight and have diabetes in your family, you need to get an A1c test, which is an average blood sugar over 90 days. Not just a fasting blood sugar at the doctors office.

You now can check your own average blood sugar over 90 days by just getting the Home A1c test and check it your self. More info on the A1c test can be found at a1cselftest.com

I don't get it. Oprah, with billions in wealth, private trainers and private chefs, can't keep her weight off. Why should we buy anything from the person that failed to make a difference with her?

We, the marketplace, need to demand better evidence of success before we go off and follow someone's pet gimmick.

Do as Oprah says, not as she does. Get with the program.

Success is in the hands of the person who needs to lose the weight, not the trainer, doctor, dietitian or chef.
