The theorists have already identified NASA as part of the coverup - from the Kennedy assasination to moon landings. So I doubt if any body's view of 2012 will be affected.

NASA you're wasting your time. Some people can't be helped. The sad thing is once 2012 goes by, all the end-of-the-worlders will just set a new date.

Way to stay focused NASA! Tell us 2012 won't be the "end of days" is like reminding us folk that the moon isn't made of cheese...

I would enjoy seeing some estimate as to the number of people who were/are concerned about this.

Sweet. Now that that is settled, maybe they can work on building a rocket with payload that gets out of Low Earth Orbit, like the ones from 50 years ago.

Did you read Buzz Aldrin's post yesterday?... If not, you should.

So why is it that most of the same people who believe that the Mayans have magically foretold of the end of the world also believe that the Mayans needed extraterrestrial assistance to build a friggin pyramid? Oh, don't tell me... the aliens actually dictated the calendar to the Mayans during breaks from building the pyramids... yea that's the ticket.

My prediction: By noon on 12/22/2012 they'll all be doing number puzzles in order to prove that it wasn't really 2012 it was maybe 2021 - you reverse the last two digits. Similar to the way the Nostradamus fanatics have decided that the 1999 dated quatrain was really encoded to mean 9/11/1 by making the 1 a 9 and the 9's 1's. Whatever it takes...

Misleading headline. Since when is releasing a press release a "Campaign"?

Neither NASA nor any government agency should be spending one cent or one second debunking moronic end of the world idiocy.

It was just a press release.

Sheesh. NASA could save a lot of time and money debunking this:

all they have to do is issue a press release saying the 2012 catastrophe is caused by climate change and the health insurance industry, and those busy conservatives will have it knocked down in no time.

If the Mayans were all that smart, why didn't they see Cortez coming?

Because he conquered the Aztecs, not the Mayans?

Yeah...but Cortez REALLY wanted to wipe out the Mayans.
They taunted him so...

Oh come on, NASA. All this 2012 stuff means is that there's no need to buy Christmas presents in advance that year. Everyone will be perfectly justified to wait for the after-Christmas sales. Let the gullible enjoy their panic.

Perhaps NASA could also explain that you can't fly a Cessna 310 through the debris of falling skyscrapers without FODing the propellers all to heck, and that a giant statute of Christ on a mountaintop that has already survived numerous earthquakes will not lose its arms and fall over before peoples' windows even start to rattle.

Other than that, I'm sure the script is airtight.

LOL! In his reviews of these big budget potboilers, Roger Ebert often asks how in the world planes, cars and motorcycles always just manage to outrun things that move at such blinding speeds.

That looks like the dumbest movie since Independence Day... by a wide margin.

Am I the only one who has noticed that "2012" is a 2009 remake of George Pal's early '50s film "When Worlds Collide" ?

"And even if the planets were to line up as some have forecast, the effect on our planet would be 'negligible,' NASA said."

I've read that astronomers have confirmed that the planets are going to come into alignment on 12/21/12. The question that's unanswered is whether that will have any effect on earth (and if so, what?). NASA needs to address the right issue, for once ...

Planets have aligned before to no effect. Why would it suddenly matter?

The 2012 alignment only happens once every 26,000 years (or thereabouts)--it's very rare. There is no recorded history of what happened the last time this alignment occurred.

No, there's an effect alright, it's just "negligible."

Get it right now!
