Alexios Marakis Assaulted: Greek Orthodox Priest Attacked By Marine Reservist In Fit Of Anti-Muslim Hysteria

What's Your Reaction?
Reservist Assuate

It's not for nothing that General George Casey warned against an anti-Muslim backlash in the wake of the Fort Hood massacre. But a whole slew of childlike nimrods, spurred to action by Casey vowing that it would be "a shame if our diversity became a casualty," have taken the stage to decry such concerns as "political correctness." Michelle Malkin complained that this was worshiping "the false god of diversity." Pat Robertson demanded that Muslims be treated as "members of some fascist group." So much good sense, being made! And so, naturally, the backlash Casey warned of has now expanded to include Greek Orthodox priests.

Via Think Progress:

Alexios Marakis, a Greek Orthodox priest visiting the U.S., got lost in Tampa and tried to stop and ask directions from Marine reservist Jasen D. Bruce. But instead of offering help, "Bruce struck the priest on the head with a tire iron." The reservist believed Marakis, who spoke limited English, was an Arab terrorist. Bruce chased the priest for three blocks, "and even called 911 to say that an Arabic man tried to rob him."

And that's the wages of hysteria, right there.

Really! No doubt the good General doesn't know that all the anti-Muslim hysteria is well-crafted, premeditated and carefully-manipulated. The US always has to have a boogie man so it can keep its sheeple at bay, entertained by hating the wrong cause while, the ones that should really be hated are raping them annally without them noticing.

I don't care that he was a Marine. I want to know what religion Bruce was.

Christian supremacist proselyting rampant throughout the U.S. military combined with a whipping up of hatred against "others" by the RightWinger blathersphere insures that this will become a more frequent story.

He works for a Pharma company that sells, among other items, "sports supplements". He has a body building web page with numerous photos. Lets see how this all turns out but it would seem that the ... "I thought he was a terrorist" is just a bullcr@p.

In this country, an odd relationship exists between the dumbest among us and the greediest among us. For political or economic gain, the greediest among us work very hard to keep the dumbest among us confused and angry.

As long as our dumbest people remain dumb, and as long as our greediest people work to manipulate our dumbest people, incidents like this will continue to occur.

It could be reasonably argued that the Greek Orthodox have suffered more from the Muslims than any other ethnic or religious group. To think a US Marine did this ... Well, I'm just speechless!

Doesnt surprise me a bit.

We issue guns to Bigots, what do you expect?

Everybody thinks they have the ONE TRUE RELIGION.

Mix that in with a win or lose over-competitive ego-centrist society, fearfully propagandized mindset... there will always be hate crimes like this. The military gives guns to Weak minded souls.

Greek Orthodox LOOK different, thats enough for a pea brain with a gun.

This is christian terrorism, if the Ft Hood incident was Islamic terrorism....

The question that might need to be asked here is how many people will need to die before we start to collectively prosecute those who are guilty of hate speech and incitement to violence? 100? 1,000? More? When we have the Faux News clowns, plus the likes of Limbuagh, Savage, Malkin, Bachman, Palin, et al screaming on the radio and TV every day robbing non-whites and non-Christians of their humanity in the service of "their" God and their vision of a righteous America, the violence and bloodshed is going to be epic. We've already had this event, Dr. Tiller, James Von Brunn and other incidents that are DIRECT RESULTS of fear and hatred disguised as patriotism.

Unless and until we stand up and say "enough", this will continue to escalate unabated.

Excellent comment- and absolutely true. Freedom of Speech has to include taking responsibility for speech that incites violence and hate crimes. Since the hate-talkers are more interested in ratings and making money, than the craziness they're stirring up, the grown-ups are going to have step in- yet again, when it comes to rightwng-lunacy.
