While I wish that he had stood up to the bigots, I can't honestly blame the mayor for resigning

It was bad growing up on the shore in the 60s and 70s. I guess not much has changed.

Way to give in and show the Nazi youth that they can get their way if they threaten enough.

The picture and the town don't match. South Harrison is just a cross roads. Wink and you miss it. The mayor had the 1st traffic light installed a few years ago. The picture is of a demonstration in a city. No relationship,

"And it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," Obama said.

AND WHAT????? HE WAS WRONG???????

It seems pretty conclusive to me, the veracity of this observation.
There can be NO other explanation.

Thirty years ago i almost got lynched by some of my brother's drunken friends in Norwood, NJ...that DROVE Malcolm X's "Up South" teachings home!

Jersey, Georgia, Bensonhurst...it's all the same to me

Why would anyone want to be a mayor, anyway?

Because its an honor and privilege to serve your community, and give back without expecting to profit personally. Shouldn't we ask Micheal Bloomberg? Shouldn't we ask why would anybody want to be President? (Every president enters office looking young and vigorous and leaves gray haired). Assuming his story to be true, this is heartbreaking. Having one's car purposefully vandalized as a message (as happened in Ft Hood) can often defeat a person by destroying their sense of personal safety.

Well, go on ahead and run for office. It is not worth it when you have your car vandalized and your life threatened. Under a more civil circumstance, perhaps.

That, and the job only pays a dollar a year. Like most small town mayorships.
