President Barack Obama has flown to Texas to lead a memorial service at Fort Hood Army base for the people killed in last week's shooting rampage and to console their relatives and loved ones. Click here to read the president's speech.

Accompanying Obama to Texas on Air Force One, spokesman Robert Gibbs said the president will talk briefly about each of the 13 who fell under a gunman's siege last Thursday. The spokesman said Obama also plans to praise "the dedication of the armed forces" and say just how much people all over the country were touched by acts of heroism and professionalism under incredible stress.

Unfortunately this wont change the fact that right wingers love to revise history.

It's a pity Bush hadn't taken a few more days off - the country might not be in the mess it's in today.

Well, I think that was the problem because behind that curtain was Darth Vader Cheney when the president was lounging clearing brush on the ranch.

It is high time to end this stupid war on terror and stop the military industrial complex from becoming rich off the lives of the stressed out soldiers. The soldiers are being used as pawn in a pond. The powers that be do not care about their mental health, and if this is not addressed, there will be more out burst of soldiers turning on each other because they are stretched too thin. where is the moral outcry? This war, together with Wall Street are going to be the demise of the USA as we know it.

"Compassion is not religious business, it is human business; it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability; it is essential for human survival." Dalai Lama

May the fallen soldiers rest in peace. May we all find compassion for those they leave behind.

Rest in Peace, fine soldiers.

You're a cool guy, but we were wounded last week and stay that way today. Now let's get of the political correctness that allowed this to happen.

Truly an amazingly beautiful speech by the Commander in Chief!

Living in Austin - less than 60 miles from Fort Hood - I watched the full service. It's been a beautiful ceremony...

I heard the first two speakers address the crowd - Lt. Gen. Robert Cone and General Casey - and thought "they said it so well...what will be left for President Obama to say?"

Well...certainly, there was plenty! He is such an amazing speaker, and I am so honored each time I hear him!

Now listening to the Final Roll Call...how truly moving! And finally, the Gun Salute and Taps. So regal, as the newscaster just said! Hard to type through tears, but must comment none the less.

Such tragedy. Such service these people give to us. Some giving the most beautiful of services - their lives for ours.

Thank you to those who have lost their lives so that I may live mine. How to repay you...there is no way!

Where can I get to view the entire speech and song? I missed this. And to those of you who seem to enjoy saying nasty stuff about your President, well, I cannot post what I would like to say! But, I am certain you can spell it out, you seem to have the answers for everything else. Damned if he does and damned if he don't. I would like to see any one of us to walk in a Presidents shoes, any President, you seem to think it is so darn easy, switch places for a month!

Our President did a wonderful job memorializing our fallen soldiers. He spoke of each person in a very nice, personal way. I am sure their families were comforted by his words and sincerity. It was beautiful.
03:29 PM on 11/10/2009
The President is an amazingly compassionate and caring man. I hope his presence brought comfort to those suffering families.

I am humbled by how he paid tribute to each fallen soldier individually, given each person time and attention that they deserve. No one can teach kindness and compassionate.

I always thought that even tr0lls had some humanity, but the comments here suggest that the GOPers have a coldness of spirit that they do not even bother to honor the fallen.

I remember from chaplaincy in Norfolk how we had all those little boxframes ready to hand for just such purposes all too often. Just practicing for combat is dangerous enough. This just gnaws at your insides.

I find the man amazing. This was not the Gettysburg Address, but it was up there. How I appreciate our president and how the events leading up to this memorial sadden me.
