What's Your Reaction?

Michelle Obama took her public policy message about food, growing gardens and eating vegetables to the (littlest) masses when she appeared Tuesday on the 40th anniversary episode of the beloved children's show, Sesame Street. After the segment taped, The First Lady described being on Sesame Street as "It's probably the best thing I've done so far in the White House."

In this segment, Michelle talks about how great veggies taste, her love of cucumbers, and what a great salad the lettuce is going to make. Then Big Bird asks Michelle if they are from the same family, because she's so tall.

In this segment, Elmo goes crazy for practicing healthy habits with Michelle.

Obama's Pesticide-Pushing Nominee

Senior CropLife America (CLA), executive Dr "Isi" Siddiqui has been nominated for a key post: Chief Agricultural Negotiator for the office of the US Trade Representative (USTR).

If confirmed, Siddiqui will be responsible for, among other things, negotiating international agreements governing the use of pesticides.

CLA is the American branch of CropLife International, a powerful global lobby; its members include agriculture giants such as Dow AgroSciences, Monsanto, and DuPont. Siddiqui joined the CLA in 2001 as a registered lobbyist, and since 2003 has served as its vice president of science and regulatory affairs. In that position, he's played a critical role in setting CLA’s domestic and international agenda.

In 2005, the group participated in secret talks with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of Management and Budget on permitting pesticide testing on children. In 2006, CropLife America helped secure an exemption for American farmers from a worldwide ban on methyl bromide, an ozone-depleting pesticide. It has also actively worked to remove what it terms "trade irritants" on pesticides under NAFTA. In its 2008 annual report, CLA highlighted its "relentless" efforts to persuade negotiators to cut language "discriminatory to pesticides" from the 2008 Farm Bill. Meanwhile, its parent organization has fought to eliminate all tariffs on pesticides in World Trade Organization (WTO) trade negotiations.

Mrs. Obama is a class act. Our obesity rates are sky high, her efforts to educate Americans on healthy eating habits and physical activity are highly commendable.

Uh oh! There are the Obamas idoctrinating more kids again. When will they stop?

Of course that's sarcasm - apparently a disclaimer has to be used in order to not confuse the right wing trolls on this site.

TickleMe Plant Greenhouse is the most unique gardening gift I have seen. In it I grew a real house plant that reacts to being Tickled. They still have a few at http://www.ticklemeplant.com or just Google it.
See the video. No batteries required!

Not to get too off-topic, but when and why did someone let Elmo hijack this show? I'd like to see Grover the Waiter and the blue-faced man start screaming at each other a couple more times, my kids really like that. Michelle looked great.

OMG the Villagers are going to be coming out in droves, torches aflame, pitchforks ready, to skewer federal funding for public television.

(For the hysterics here, Federal money makes up about 17% of total public TV revenues. Individuals contribute to public TV stations a larger percentage of revenues than any other category of supporter--usually about 25% total. )

No matter where she goes, or what she does, she always look so relaxed.....Her smile lights up the kids eyes.
The USA is so lucky to have her. A shining example for all of us.
