There is hope for Mark Kirk yet. He needs to go hard right which is really just right. I'll bet he wishes he could take that cap and trade vote back. If he could, he would be in a much better position.

Does going to the right so quickly make Mark Kirk dizzy? The major benefit to his running is that when he loses, someone else will have his congressional seat.

the latest Kirk quite: "I think I am who I am," Kirk, a member of the Naval Reserve, told reporters after a Veterans Day ceremony at the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chicago.
I think that was a song from La Cage aux Folles...

Apparently there's no difference between being pro-choice and pro-making-all-the-tax-payers-pay-for-womens-choices?

Oh for f* sake, the Stupak amendment is not exactly anti-choice nor are any of the dems who voted to for it. It does nothing to stop abortions or even challenge Roe -v- Wade. I don't see why careless, irresponsible people can't pay for their own elective abortions.

Yes, people should pay for their own viagra and cosmetic surgeries as well.

The people are not pro-life. They are pro-poor. Keep women poor and having babies. Then kick them to the curb. They all make me ill.

Maybe if these "poor women" would close their legs for a while or at least use condoms and the pill, you know, take some responsibility for their actions and not be so careless.

It's becoming less clear every day exactly who Mark Kirk is. He seems to stand for nothing for more than about ten minutes.

Congressman Mark Kirk was once seen skiing in a pair of flip flops. The man does not leave home without them.

How does supporting the Stupak amendment make you not pro-choice? It doesn't ban abortion or come even close to that. It just ensures that tax money doesn't fund abortions by any means. The health care reform bill would be dead if it did allow taxpayer funding for abortions. So by trying to remove these abortion measures you are in in fact trying to kill the reform bill.

Dee,

You are WRONG.

Stupak-Pitt makes it so that women cannot even use their OWN MONEY to get an abortion because it PROHIBITS any one who receives any form of tax subsidy to provide for abortion.

Meaning, if a patient of a hospital has Medicare - then that HOSPITAL is PROHIBITED from allowing the legal medical procedure, abortion, to ANY WOMAN - even if she uses her OWN MONEY.

That's not at all true. The Stupak amendment prohibits any subsidized insurance program (public option or otherwise) from paying for proceedures. The amendment even goes so far as to state that "nothing in this section shall prohibit nonfederal entities from offering separate coverage for abortions..."

If what you said was true, I would also be against the amendment, but it's not...

The Hyde Amendment already prohibits federal funds from paying for a woman to have the LEGAL MEDICAL PROCEDURE - abortion.

The Stupak-Pitt Amendment goes way beyond the Hyde

Deezus, if you read this, would you acknowledge if you understand the difference between what you thought the Stupak amendment was and what it actually is?

I am very troubled by how many HP's have not understood what this amendment has actually defined and instead are believing the fantasy that this is about tax money.

I have posted on this repeatedly since Saturday, as have others, and am concerned that people really aren't understanding how invasive this amendment is.

Thanks!

Huh? "Elk maintained that Kirk is the “reform-minded social moderate and fiscal conservative” that voters in Illinois are seeking in a senator." Hey Eric, I don't think so...you must have Illinois confused with Utah.
