Michelle Obama Veterans Day PHOTOS: Coat Season Kickoff! (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 03/18/2010 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 2:35 pm

Michelle Obama kicked off coat season when she attended a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, wearing a teal J. Crew coat over a turquoise Maria Pinto dress. She wore almost the exact same outfit to lunch with the DC Mayor Adrian Fenty ten days after inauguration.

The same day delivered remarks to George Washington University students in a Zero + Maria Cornejo jacket.

FLOTUS is known for recycling outfits: see a slideshow of her favorite repeats HERE.

Given the rainy conditions, the first lady's footwear was entirely practical, but poor Jill Biden must have been freezing in her open-toe slingbacks.

I adore Michelle Obama, but most of the time I don't think the overbelt thing really works.

i am sure that First Lady Obama had the military soldiers and their families on her mind (not clothing). however, she sure looks good in that color. i like how she wears affordable clothing, not runway one-of-a-kind dresses that cost thousands of dollars. she is showing how washington women can look great and not have to spend a fortune. good for her.

Michelle truly does look beautiful in that teal coat and dress. As a Sunrise Colortime Michelle has made the right choice in color as well as being a trend setter, considering that she is in Pantone's color of the year for 2010.
On another note the high belt helps to define a waist that her rectangle figure slightly obscures.

How many of the First Lady's dress critics were at the ceremony? I was there - waited in the rain for 4 hours. The military band played Sousa music - marching music! This was a ceremony as much for the Veterans in the Amphitheater as it was to honor the dead. When the First Lady entered her seating area everyone reached out from their umbrellas and waved. She waved back. It was a time to be supportive of Veterans. I missed the "solemn occasion" air some of these dress experts announced to shore up their criticism.

The First Lady wore conservative black to the Fort Hood memorial services. A funeral.

I think she might just have been a step ahead of the fashionistas!

I just love this woman. I don't give a cr@p what she is wearing. Just like me (today for example), I wear whatever the heck I want. I love that she doesn't care what people think and she is just doing HER. Those of you who have issues with her... I think you should get a life.

no issues with her just her fashion sense.

Your past r.cist comments have MORE than proven whatyour real problem is. The 'sweetness and light' routine, although entertaining, is convincing no one. But please, continue, it's great comedy . . . LOL . . .

I meant "advocating not to HATE the rich".

Sorry, but she's not that attractive. I don't know why the press has to make her out as some Jackie Kennedy wannabe. She doesn't have the grace and the styles do not suit her. She'd be better off in loud, proud clothing and accessories.

" . . . loud, proud clothing and accessories . . . " ??

LOL !! Is thatyour roundabout way of saying African dashikis and 'B/ack Power' tee-shirts ?? LOL It would be great if for no other reason than it would send u completely over the edge.

Just start accepting that ya got a beautiful, B/ack First Lady. Try to 'unclench' and just relax and release . . . LMAO

great response! what's wrong w/ "proud" clothing?! MO wears chic designers...i've never seen her wearing "ethnic" clothing. (btw, i have nothing against ethnic clothing; i'm Nigerian-American).

Have we seen your @zz on the runways lately or on the front of Glamour Magazine?

Tr0ll get lost.

the marvelous FLOTUS needs to understand that not every outfit calls for a belt or a broach (especially ill placed ones that dont match or flow w the outfit). sometimes her over accessorizing messes up perfectly good outfits.

Why should she understand that? Because you say so? She can wear what she wants.
03:11 PM on 11/20/2009
Of course she can wear what she wants, but these are fashion commentary posts. (Fashion doesn't really matter, it's just entertainment.)

I'm too a big fan of the FLOTUS but I'm tire of those belts! But some of the below negative comments stating that she spend too much money purchasing clothes and she's unattractive. Majority of her clothes she has worn before but what she wear is her business.

What really bothering some you is that you're not use of a woman who has a mind of her own. Unfortunately she doesn't fit your normal snobber, closed minded standards...you know...... flat wide polyester behinds that wrinkles up before they turned 40.

No, what bugs me is that everybody goes around pretending she looks FABULOUS!

Same thing with her husband; everybody pretends he's doing a great job.

Okay, that belt is completely unnecessary. I don't get her fascination with belts, but they don't go with EVERYTHING
11:15 AM on 11/13/2009
What I don't understand is why she wears her belt so high - almost always creating a empire style that is not flattering to her. Those high, usually large belts, make her bottom appear more enormous than it probably is. She'd be better off with us an aline dress that follows her natural curves. And I think M. O.'s little cardis should be left behind; they seem very tired to me. Further, though O. de L apologized, he was right: she should never have worn a sweater to visit the Q of England. Geez so many times she looks pretty good but a lot of the time it's a fashion disaster. Time to stop relying on her Chicago friends & get to NY.

agree, well said. i understand that she is wanting to utilize lower end designers. but we do have some fantastic mature designers in this country that i am sure would offer a free consultation. i dont get it.

That coat and the laughing by nearly everyone in that photo are a complete disgrace. They're at a wreath laying to our fallen soldiers....have some respect.

Jill Biden should be wearing shoes!

I think Michelle is the epitome of fashion though I'm not a big fan of the belts.

She's amazing!

How can anyone spend so much money on clothes, and consistently look so bad?

She must not have any real friends or honest people around her, or maybe she actually thinks the belts look great and flatter her figure.
12:10 PM on 11/12/2009
Look how the press treats her:

They're pretending she looks GOOD.

The whole Nation has been ly!ng to her, why would her friends behave differently?
