Although all birds have feathers, some flaunt it better than others! These feathers, which are likely used to attract mates, come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. These colorful birds amaze and dazzle both potential bird-mates and humans alike.

Check out these photos of birds with stunningly beautiful feathers and vote for the one you like best.

Gorgeous birdies. What a tease for us northerners, now that the dark, grey days of autumn have arrived and the birds have flown south.

Stunning birds! It is so important that people work hard to preserve the animal world...work and support habitat preservation and a healthy eco-system!!!! I am so afraid that mankind's proliferation and lack of care will irreversablely damage and kill off the animals and the beautiful unspoiled areas of the earth due to over population, industrialization, and the greed of Big Businesses' expliotation!

Unfortunately, the Painted Buntings are in danger and declining. Such a pity!

(of course many, many bird species are declining, due to loss of habitat.....there's been a precipitous decline in numbers of U.S. songbirds, for starters)

You can go see them in Mexico and many other places.

One location is in and near Barra de Navidad, near Manzanillo.

It's a pity that their beauty lends them to being captured and sold!

Anyway, kudos to Huff Po for showing these magnificent photos!

Don't know what it says or why it matters too much, but I've always found it curious that the males are the most outlandish, decorative, and well, pea-cocky.

Evolutionary adaptation made the male look colorful in order to attract female. Ironically, it also makes them easy target to preys; the price of procreation

Yeah I understand that, but I find it ironic considering that as humans, we tend to see the female sex as the 'fairer sex', and more associated with the beautifying arts of fashion, accessorizing, skin care, etc. where there seems to be more social pressure for males to dress and present themselves in more understated ways. Generally speaking.

Please get the names right! s/b Lorikeet, Starling, Sylph.
Don't upset the birders, we are a persnickety bunch!
Birds + binoculars + walking outdoors = best free mental vacation there is, IMO.
Get a field guide and try it.

I agree. Birdwatching is so under rated! Just love it.

Glad to see the quetzal--the national bird of Guatemala, where my son was born. A gorgeous bird! My favorite, though, remains the peacock.

We have peacocks_roaming free where I live in Fl. Frances Langford (singer from the 40's) brought them in when she married Evenrude (boat engine maker).

Somebody, who didn't want them around, started poisening them, but the whole town came out to protect them.

Do you live in Orlando? They roam free in my grandfather's neighborhood there.

I love peacocks. They are so beautiful and are an ancient, ancient symbol of the Resurrection.

You also mean Violet Tail Sylph, not Slyph.

Who's typing the titles, and can I have some of what he/she's drinking?

When you look at beauty like this you think that there must be a God.

A benevolent God.
