Nawaf Al Abed, a striker for the Saudi soccer team Al Hilal, scored a shockingly quick goal in a match against Al Shoalah on November 7. Immediately following the kickoff, Al Abed struck the ball from midfield with such strength and accuracy that it soared into the net for a quick goal. According to Goal.com, the 21-year-old's shot resulted in a goal just two seconds after kickoff. Al Hilal went on to win the under-23 Prince Faisal bin Fahad Cup 4-0.

The trajectory of the shot was outrageous, I'll grant you that. But the shot could have, and should have been saved. The combination of reasons the shot went in, it seem to me, is that the keeper was well off his line for the kickoff (nothing to fault him for there), the unexpected nature of the shot caught him totally off guard, and he seems to have misjudged the trajectory.

I give Al Abed credit though,.. for making the shot and for having the ambition to even try a shot from that distance a mere second into the game. Talk about a "longshot long shot" (odds AND distance), eh! I find it equal parts amazing and.. amusing. LOL!
