Andre Agassi appeared on the "Late Show with David Letterman" last night to promote his new book, Open. Agassi began by joking about his past crystal meth use: "That was actually a typo in the book. I said I did math in 1997." The tennis star became more serious as he described how "I was in a life I didn't want, a life I didn't choose, a marriage I didn't want to be in."

Agassi also came clean about wearing a wig earlier in his career. "We're looking at a lot of pain," he said when shown a photograph of his faux hair.

i like his honesty. he shouldn't feel bad about the wig; i am a female who is almost bald and i wear a wig, too. when it's windy, i have to hold on tight to it. seriously, andre is helping other athletes with his life story. many people are pushed into a vocation they don't like or want. many people of color have few choices (the ones born into poverty); and so they are coached into sports. substance abuse is just a sign of inner conflict and pain. thanks for sharing your story, andre.

he's a good guy.

what's funny is to see him have to say the same story on 10 different shows.

can't they just tape him and then play it on these shows.

then andre doesn't have to run all around the city.

agassi, just based on his career, had incredible success, fame and fortune

he retired finally 2 years ago. he was done. he had made plenty of money and still had fans. his marriage to graf and his children's future were usually mentioned in a positive light in articles. he has his own charitable foundation to which he donates millions.

he didn't need any of this. the only logical conclusion is that he did it for at least mostly what he claims he did it for. he wanted to come clean. he didn't use performance enhancing drugs. this was embarassing, but he did it anyway.

he donates more money every year than this book will net him in income. it doesn't make sense that he did it for money. i don't think he did. he made hundreds of millions during his career and his champion wife made plenty too. they were doing fine.
