Bart Stupak: 'There Will Be Hell To Pay' If My Amendment Is Removed

Stupak

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) is warning fellow Democrats not to mess with his restrictive anti-abortion amendment.

Pro-choice outrage was sparked by the inclusion of a provision in the House health care bill making it harder for private insurers to cover abortion. President Obama himself suggested that the language disrupted the status quo and should be taken out of the final legislation. Abortion rights supporters in Congress requested a meeting with the president next week to discuss the issue.

Now Stupak is saying he won't go easily.

"We won because [the Democrats] need us," Stupak said. "If they are going to summarily dismiss us by taking the pen to that language, there will be hell to pay. I don't say it as a threat, but if they double-cross us, there will be 40 people who won't vote with them the next time they need us -- and that could be the final version of this bill."

I am a Catholic, 78 years old, a woman. Stupak says he is a Catholic, but lived at C Street for years which they claim has a religion, NOT Catholic. A man can rape, get female pregnant, hit the road and she is stuck to decide what to do all by herself, no man, Democrat, Republican, President or even the Pope and any Minister has the right to tell a woman what to do with her body. Stupak should just shut up about it, it is none of his business. Mr. Obama won the election and several Democrats won along with him, he was left with a terrible mess and now some Democrats are handing him another mess, they don't have the guts he has, they don't care about the people in America. They should get out from behind whatever and go to those Free Clinic that Ed Shultz went to and see how the American people are struggling, while you all in D.C. sit and just talk, the Republicans are disgusting and some of your are too. Get with it and get something worthwhile done.

I forget what comedian said "If men could get pregnant, you would be able to buy home abortion kits at any 7-11"

Okay, so the crusty old men want to take away women's constitutionally guaranteed rights, let's go with this argument as a counter-balance

Actually it doesn't. So his dependents do not have abortion coverage. Nor do those who serve in the military or their dependents, people who work for the VA, women in federal prisons, Peace Corps volunteeers, Native Americans receiving care from the Indian Health Service, or women on Medicaid who live in states that do not provide funds for abortions.

Women's reproductive health choices are already shockingly limited for many. This is just another nail in the coffin.

how dare you deny a woman the right to choose what happens to her body. your right there will be hell to pay if your amendment is not removed. i have had an abortion and i want all woman to have the same right and in case you are curious yes i do vote and i will vote against anyone who votes for health care that includes the stupak amendment.

He "dares" because he is a Christian Taliban (religious fundamentalist) and belongs to a fascist organization "The Familia". Search on Google for its incredible history and members

This health care reform bill is se.crewd up. The repub.licans and blue dog have salt and peppered it with so many political IED's it will be an a.bort.ion if it ever sees the light of day. It needs to be de.feated. If the dem.ocrats really want to pass a bill that has meat on the bone, they need to get their act together on what they want, disregard bipartisan.ship, and give the public want they demand and tell those 40 re.pub.lican senators who represent only 10% of the public where to take a hike. This is one time I'm all for the republican effort to kill the bill but for diametrically opposite reasons

You have to understand that he is under orders from the "family" and C street. They have informed him what role he should play in this. Reid will have a hard time competing with the influence of the religious mafia at C street.

Get use to it. The Dems will throw aside whatever they need to in their platform in order to achieve a "victory" for Obama. The Obama people just need to say they did something, even if that something makes the entire situation worse.

Get useD to it. The GOP will throw whatever they can in any path for progress in order to achieve a "loss" for Obama. The GOP just needs to say they did something to bring a popular president down, even if that something makes the entire situation worse.

And there'll be he1 1 to pay if it's not removed.

There's always he1 1 to pay.

If you really knew what you were talking about you would say that what is being preached in Catholic Churches is the following:

"A consistent Ethic of life from conception to natural death"
09:06 AM on 11/13/2009
Yet there is no concern over Iraq that was declared unjust by the previous Pope, or the number of people that die because they do not have access or cannot afford healthcare.

In addittion, the concept of life beginning at conception uis a rather recent argument adhered to by the church. For the first one and a half millenium the church believed that life began at the time the fetus had developed to the point of receiving the spirit. That was at a point called the quickening, when the child begins to kick. The current set of beliefs around when life begins seems to have developed as needed defenses against birth control methods and advanced techniques surrounding abortions. Look at the church liturgy around funerals. If the church had always believed that life begins at conception, would they not have to have services for babies that die before birth. That would mean keeping the remains from a misscarriage for burial in a plot with a Mass and all of the normal solemnity death normally requires. There is no such practice. It is only viewed as life beginning at conception as focused on the abortion fight and contraception (RU486).

After working for the Catholic church for many years I finally had to tear myself away from the ludicrious activity being encouraged within it and just leave for good. For example, I have actually known of and seen your above mentioned "funeral" for miscarriage remains by a priest in good standing.

Although the church "officially" does not have a set funeral plan for embryos and fetuses, plenty of priests are having these funerals on their own (mostly the young retrograde ones) and in certain pro-life circles, it's expected. I know specifically of one case where the woman saved the "remains" from her very, very early miscarriage and put it in the center of a large flower for the service. CREEPY. The pro-life culture within the Catholic church is not mentally healthy and it keeps getting worse. Whether the few remaining intellectuals within the church will steer it toward health again is open for serious question--the new, young priests (and bishops) are intellectually inferior to their counterparts from Vatican II and also emotionally unhealthy as a whole. Just my opinion from an insider.

President Obama himself said that this is a healthcare bill not an abortion bill.
