I watched and enjoyed. Bill and Walter are of and from Chicago and know what they're talking about. Most of the anchors since have been brought in from somewhere else and see Chicago from River North and the Kennedy heading to and from the airport. Jacobson's Perspective was vintage and should remind everyone of the local coverage that has been missing for so long from the Chicago airwaves. I say, sign them upand turn them loose!
For the sake of nostalgia, I caught the first 10 minutes of the broadcast.
It was at once strange and also wonderful. I kept having flashes of the younger two of them sitting side-by-side.
The closest thing we have here in Chicago today is Ron Magers. And even he is paired with fluff like Cheryl Burton and Kathy Brock.
What a shame that CBS2 passed on Mark Suppelsa when he became available.
The good old days of newscasting, real news not who is on Dancing With The Stars or who was dropped from some reality show. Miss you both.
Bill Kurtis torpedoed himself into horrific self-parody by plugging wireless Wi-Fi on TV commercials. At least Walter Jacobson can sleep at night knowing his journalistic virtue is still intact.
And speaking of Jane Byrne?
Having a sense of humor does not diminish Kurtis' decades long, extensive resume.
I look upon him now with every bit as much admiration as I did before those commercials began airing.
That you would allow a bit of self-effacing humor to alter your opinion of his over all body of work indicates that you really didn't care all that much in the first place.
Don't know about that.
Remember: She was one of the few pols to actually refer to Walter Jacobson by his nickname of "Skippy."
Um, that was meant to be addressed to the guy who asked if Jane Byrne would be a guest.
When she started that snow removal program, she named the Snowman that was the logo/symbol for it "Skippy the Snowman".
They were the very best of the Chicago anchors. Smart, savvy, and Walter's commentary was absolutely biting. I wish I lived close enough to get Channel 2 so I could watch.
Any chance of Jane Byrne doing something newsworthy for that night? Remember when she moved into Cabrini Green, body guards and all?
I'm guessing you are talking about television. Must be some kind of local legend. Very local. Never heard of them together.
Yeah, they were a local anchor team in Chicago.
Okay yahoo. Bill Kurtis is the guy who narrated the movie "Ron Burgundy: Anchorman".
Now, do you know who he is?
They were a team and very popular back in the '70s when I lived in Chicagoland.
