In a modern update of the telethon fundraiser so often seen on TV stations like PBS, two Portland technology bloggers will be livestreaming for 30 hours for charity.
On December 18 and 19, Cami Kaos of Strange Love Live and Rick Turoczy of Silicon Florist will be hosting 30 Hour Day, a livestreaming podcast that will air on the Web for 30 straight hours in order to raise money for the following charities: Free Geek, Hands on Disaster Response, Oregon Food Bank and Toys for Tots.
The duo is encouraging viewers to use the content from the telethon to generate support and donations for other charities around the world. For example, a viewer might organize a food drive around a viewing of the broadcast for local food banks. To keep audiences engaged, Kaos and Turoczy plan on incorporating interviews, giveaways and an auction to generate more proceeds and donations for the charities they've chosen.
