15 people? out of maybe 20 million or 60 million people who ate oysters?

Is there any chance we could have some perspective here?
yeah lets throw thousands (hundreds?) of people out of work!

Oyster lovers, consider the bearded clam as an acceptable substitute.

If we had clean water this would not be a problem. Always drink alcohol when eating oysters to prevent infections.

Actually, that's incorrect:

"The bacteria Vibrio vulnificus is commonly present in oysters, but warm water can lead the bacteria to grow rapidly, so the riskiest oysters come from the Gulf of Mexico during the summer months."

So, unless you plan on cooling the entire Gulf of Mexico, this is going to always be a problem.

That is true with most bacteria. I believe what causes people the most injury are bacteria and viruses picked by run off of our own waste, such as urine and fecal matter. Alcohol does seem to keep injury from happening with infected oysters. There was a party in Mexico and all those who did not drink alcohol came down with hepatitis. This is a good site to check your facts.

Right. More people die each year eating produce contaminated with E coli. If you have ever eaten a safely harvested oyster, it's a treat to behold. It tastes like the sea.

Oh, and it also helps to you know...(wink,wink)

The risks are very slight. Anyone that gets in a car and drives on America's roadways encounters a risk orders of magnitude greater. There are so many greater chances of death in everything we do.

Sir - may I please have some turkey for tonight's family dinner.
No! tofu only - for you!

...Then again - that is assuming they actually speak English.

Just more nanny state govt. This is so stupid. Life is a risk. Every day we get out of bed and walk out the door it could be the day that the piano falls on our head.
