We now know that the more efficient (read bad) bacteria becomes predominate in your gut within 24 hours of consuming a diet high in sugars and fats. What we don't know but they are now researching is how long it takes to convert the intestinial bacteria back to less efficient (read good) bacteria.
Meanwhile, we have ads breaking hourly on national TV and in magazines for doing lap band surgery. If we simply took all ads for drugs, surgeries, and insurance reputtals off the TV, they would go broke within days.
The St Louis hospital that is doing this research is also looking at the gut flora that is prevalent in malnourished people. 90% of the people who read this article immediately want to know what pill they can take to solve their issue. It ain't that simple. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole foods. Drink water by the gallons. Walk, run, jog...just move 10,000 steps a day. Stay away from sugars, salt, highly processed carbs, and the wrong fats. It may take weeks, maybe even a few months... but the excess weight will begin to drop off.

OK this is great but the article doesn't say what you should do to fix it. Is there a good bacteria I can eat to fix the balance? What gives?
