Politico:

President Barack Obama plans to announce in next year's State of the Union address that he wants to focus extensively on cutting the federal deficit in 2010 - and will downplay other new domestic spending beyond jobs programs, according to top aides involved in the planning.

The president's plan, which the officials said was under discussion before this month's Democratic election setbacks, represents both a practical and a political calculation by this White House.

Why should I pay for the mistakes of this administration - Pork-a-Stimulus, Omnibus, "Cap N Tax" and now this health care fiasco. Raising taxes will ONLY stifle job growth which will then increase unemployment. Sure go ahead and raise taxes and watch as our unemployment increase along with obama's big government. That's a swell idea.

Does he mean reducing the deficit in a game of monopoly by printing more monopoly money?

His focus to cut the debt in 2010. When all his actions lately say otherwise. Let's review the man's list of accomplishments this past 10 months.

* fired CEO of major corporation
* Okayed Air Force One flying low over Manhattan
* referred to May 5th as "Cinco de Quatro" in front of Mexican Ambassafor
* filled his cabinet advisers with people who cannot see to pay their income taxes
* referenced a non-existent "Austrian language" while visiting Austria
* bowed to King of Saudi Arabia
* gave Gordon Brown a set of cheap incorrectly formatted DVDs
* made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics
* reduced retirement plan's holding of GM stock by 90%. gives union majority stake.
* spent hundreds of thousands to take michele to play in NYC
* double the national debt, which had taken more than 2 centuries to accumulate, in one year
* proposes to double the debt AGAIN within 10 years

obama has caused significant financial upheaval that he is NOW going to focus on fixing the deficit. Tell me, what is it about obama that makes him so brilliant, so impressive? Can't think of anything?

Neither can I. But don't worry. We have 3 more years of this joker.

China is investing $100 billion in developing their green technology. We, on the other hand, are investing $3 billion dollars here in the U.S....Meanwhile, we're wasting over $100 billion per year in Iraq and Afghanistan, and our congressmen refuse to pass a robust public option that would end up cutting medical costs dramatically. And, these same congressmen are finding it difficult to enact regulations that will prevent a future financial crisis from burying us economically. It's no wonder that we're in a deep pile of doo-doo. Nothing we do makes sense anymore. At least, that's the way it seems.

Special interests are destroying our ability to make needed course corrections.

A robust public option would be a good place to start.

Oh, so Obama wants to cut the Federal deficit?

Really?

Then why don't we stop spending over ONE MILLION DOLLARS PER SOLDIER PER YEAR in the needless Afgan war?

Think about that, folks, next time you get in line at the unemployment department.

Not a good idea, sir. Hoover did this same thing and we wound up with 10 years of Depression. Are the Chinese unwilling to lend to US after Bush broke the bank with his profligate spending? Mebbe.
All I know is that FDR tried this and the country went into a tailspin.
And here I thought they'd "studied" the Great Depression and "knew what to do". I guess all they learned was how to create one, not get US out of one.

Get ready for the "jobs the Chinese don't want" and $1 an hour for however long your boss want to chain you to desk with no benefits.
The Reagan years have finally borne the intended fruit. Too bad he didn't live to see how he took this great country down. Maybe somewhere he knows.

There go the social programs...what's left of them. thanks, O; welcome Greater Depression. Now who still believes they'll give US a decent healthcare bill? Let me know, I've got a bridge to sell..............

Why doesn't he just talk about it now? Of course, he's talking about cutting the budget deficit, not balancing the budget or lowering the debt. "You're not going to put quite as much on the taxpayer credit card next year? How wonderful........"

Addicts quite often talk about quitting whatever habit they have.
Teenagers sometimes talk about not spending all their allowance next week.
This is pretty much how credible this is.

As though no one will remember obama's huge increases in spending. Akin to eating a little less once you weigh 450 pounds.

Don't worry, I hear he's going to use some of the stimulus money to pay down the deficit. We're saved!
