I think its ludicrous that people use PTSD as a reason that this guy snapped. Its an example of how everyone believes they are a pop psychologist and terms get watered down to be meaningless. In the past this happened with terms like "bi-polar" and "narcissistic personality". This guy was never in combat. Whatever made him do what he did it wasn't PTSD.

This is a wide and deep systemic problem.

The ARMY knows it!

But they must get MUCH bolder in dealing with it or they will be forced to by vox populi and their elected officials -especially with DEMS in control

if 40% of our soldiers are coming home with PTSD.. maybe it's time that we also thing about the mental conditionof the iraqi woman and children who see their fathers mother, children and friends blow up and shot every day..... this wasn't happening like this until we arrived to help them.... will the next generation of iraqi with these memories likely to be friend or foe.......................

Such a good point.

Also, why was there no PTSD in WWII? OK, I know part of the answer is that there was but people just didn't diagnose it then but I think there is also a much bigger issue here. In WWII the soldiers knew what they were fighting for and believed in it. My father and uncles served several years in that war in combat situations and came out of it just fine, proud of what they had done and eager to share their stories about the war.

In this war anyone who serves and is not a sociopath can tell that we are actually the oppressors not liberators. That we are actually the "red coats" the outside invading army that our history tells us are the bad guys.

in sept there was another illing at ft hood. solider on soldier. but no muuslim was around so no president, no speeches, no mass hysteria.
many of these guys joined as uneducated ids. some wanted to inflict pain and horror on the civis in iraq and afghan . now this may be part of what is wrapped up in their ptsd. its going to be very complex sit to get guys back to thriving as oppossed to just surviving. we also have to help the people of iraq for the hell we rained on them.
