Brandon Jennings dominated tonight's game against Golden State, scoring 55 points -- including 29 in the third quarter. Jennings' amazing performance set an NBA record, passing LeBron James as the youngest player ever to score 50 points.

Jennings was drafted 10th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft after playing in Europe for one year instead of attending college in the U.S.

The AP has more:

(AP) MILWAUKEE -- Brandon Jennings scored 55 points, breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's franchise rookie record, to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a come-from-behind 129-125 victory Saturday over the Golden State Warriors.

Jennings poured in 29 points in the third quarter, then scored 10 in the final 2:15 to hold off the Warriors and become only the third Bucks player to score more than 50. The last player to do it was Michael Redd, who set the franchise record with 57 points against Utah on Nov. 11, 2006.

Jennings scored 15 straight points during the third period to help the Bucks overcome a nine-point deficit and win four straight for the first time in more than two years. The Bucks (5-2) are off to their best start since 2005, the last season the team made the playoffs.

The 29 points by Jennings were the most ever scored in a quarter against the Warriors. During the period, Jennings hit four 3-pointers and an assortment of jumpers and driving layups as he took over the game. At several points after scoring, he waved his arms in the air to get the crowd to cheer louder. In all, he hit 12 of 13 shots in the quarter, his only miss a 3-point attempt with 5.9 seconds remaining.

Abdul-Jabbar scored 51 points on Feb. 21, 1970. The NBA rookie record was set by Wilt Chamberlain with 58 points for Philadelphia against Detroit in a January 1960 game in Bethlehem, Pa.

Andrew Bogut added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucks.

Monta Ellis led the Warriors (3-6) with 26 points and Corey Maggette added 25.

Jennings hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2:15 to give the Bucks a 117-115 lead. Luke Ridnour then hit a driving layup with 1:40 remaining to increase the Bucks' lead to 119-115.

After an offensive foul on Maggette, Jennings hit another jumper to make it 121-115.

Maggette made a layup, was fouled and hit the free throw to cut the lead to 121-118, but Jennings came back and hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 34 seconds remaining and the Bucks held on to win.

The Warriors lost starting guard Kelenna Azubuike in the first quarter. Azubuike drove across the lane with 9:12 remaining in the quarter and slipped on the floor. He immediately grabbed his left leg and screamed in pain. After a five-minute delay, Azubuike left the court on a stretcher cart and went to the Warriors' locker room.

NOTES: Redd, sidelined with strained left patella tendon for the last four games, will try to return next week as the Bucks play Dallas on Monday and New Jersey on Wednesday. Bucks forward Kurt Thomas played in the 900th game of his career.

He's got a coach in Scott Skiles who will keep him focused on maturing as a player. Skiles had his own off-court troubles and can help Jennings cope with life under a microscope. He's lucky that the lights don't shine too bright in Milwaukee

This was impressive for a rookie, but keep in mind it was against the Warriors

A Warriors team that totally dominated the Bucks in the first half and showed no sign of running into the buzz-saw that they encountered in Jennings during the 3rd quarter. I am happy to say that my wife and I were in the house Saturday night to see history made -- what a game. I hope Jennings spent the rest of the night in the whirlpool.

Having been a long suffering Buck's fan since the days of Kareem, its nice to have a positive story about a Buck's player. If he continues to play as advertised it is possible that he could be a nucleus and take the Bucks to at least a winning record and maybe to the playoffs. It happened in Cleveland, and maybe it could happen here for at least a couple of years before he defects to the Lakers.

Wow...I'm happy for this guy. I watched his story on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel", about how he went against the NCAA and decided to go to Italy to play for one year before declaring for the draft. The arrogance in the NCAA folks and one other "basketball expert" was sickening. They were so sure that Jennings would fail and wind up not making it into the NBA.

Who's laughing now, chumps?

Jennings for NBA Rookie of the Year 2010. A success story in the making. I'm going to keep an eye on this guy. I wonder what the MInnesota Timberwolves and the other eight teams are thinking? Remember, the Timberwolves took Rubio and Flynn, two point guards, back to back. Mr. Hyped Rubio stayed in Europe, but Johnny Flynn should be a decent player. Still, bad decision Mr. Kahn. The Timberwolves could have drafted Jennings.

Dayum, hindsight is truly 20/20.......

God it so hard to be a Knicks fan, it's like asking for abuse. You just get numb after a point.

It will be even harder to be a Knicks fan next year after you strike out in getting LeBron, Wade or Bosh, the Jazz get your lottery pick and David Lee leaves town.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar did it before there was a 3-point shot. Just sayin'...

Point well taken. So did Wilt, against much smaller players, too.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar actually did it before he was Kareem Abdul Jabbar, he was still Lew Alcindor.
Just sayin'....

The NBA is a joke. Basketball is boring. No defense.... Just a bunch of guys running up and down the court and jamming the ball......Then some growling and chest thumping, like they've just done something manly. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. A pure waste of time.

True of a lot of pro teams but not all. Cleveland and Boston for example.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:23 PM on 11/15/2009

Not Boston? Not Cleveland? KG doest pound his chest and LeBron doesn't let out a scream when makes a replay worthy play? Yeah OK...

If you want D then watch women's college bball. The women play a different game than the men. You can see the strategy, defense, and skill in a women's game whereas too many men's teams and players focus on power. It's hard to blame power players though for doing what works for them and their team. Their job is to score and win and power drives work.

Your assumption that a league like the NBA that draws the best players from nearly every continent on the face of the planet would be comprised of players that are ALL lazy, soft, noncompetitive and willingly allow themselves to be embarrassed by their opponents nightly flies in the face of common sense.

Furthermore, allowing yourself to fall prey to bad information and stereotypes will ultimately lead you down the path toward arrested development..
...Good Luck

Brandon Jennings is STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON! Nice start to the rest of your career. We proud of you back home. You had a lot of doubters but that did not deter you from anything. Keep doing your thing.

When a game against the Warriors makes HuffPost...a wave of self-assurance rolls over you for not renewing your season tickets. So was Jenings a better choice in the draft than Curry?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:30 PM on 11/15/2009

I think so because Jennings can do a lot more than just score. Curry is gonna be a gun for hire his whole career where as Jennings can actually run a team and put them on his back and get some wins. Compton in the HOUSE! lol.

Curry is going to be a decent player. We knew he could shoot but he has shown some nice point guard skills. However he will never be great because he can't guard anybody.

The NBA needs an infusion of more players like Jennings, LeBron, Kobe, etc...
The mid-90s, when there were SO many excellent players who each had interesting personalities, were a high-point for basketball.
