Immigration Bill Could Be Introduced By December

Wall Street Journal:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano called Friday for Congress to consider an overhaul of immigration law early next year, a move that could rekindle a divisive debate during an election year.

Ms. Napolitano said the immigration landscape has changed sharply since 2007, when attempts at a comprehensive overhaul failed because many members of Congress lacked confidence in the government's ability to enforce existing laws, she said.

THERE IS NO CHANCE OF CONGRESS PASSING NEW IMMIGRATION LAWS IN THE NEAR TERM.

I go back and forth from Mexico and have had a Mexican driver's licence and address and used to hang out at the plaza and courthouse at a small town across the border. The persons who have historically crossed and stayed without proper permits are better termed "economic refugees" instead of "illegal aliens" or "undocumented workers." My personal preference is 100% progressive, ultra-liberal: that the border just be left wide-open and all drugs legalized.

I suggested that they could control the border better if they inspected vehicles going back to Mexico. The suggestion was taken up and has done a lot of good, but there is still a lot of smuggling of cash, weapons and illegal vehicles because the inspections are not all that thorough.

My understanding is that Mexicans do not expect any more amnesty reforms to pass because even with Democratic Party control of the US federal government, there is too much opposition and the US cannot afford it anyway.

Wishing the best to Secretary Napolitano and Pres. Obama, but they should not be disappointed if they cannot change the present laws. They can still do a lot with humane implementing of existing laws.

The one in 1986 was a complete disaster and unable to handle the sudden in surge of millions of more destitute people, thinking they were going to collect welfare? The immigration fiasco could have ended yesterday, if the focus and criminality had been put upon the EMPLOYER who hires the illegal to exploit and drive down wages, instead of the illegal and the taxpayer who subsidizes this cheap labor. It's no brainer to fix this problem, but we all know that brains, common sense and looking out for the taxpayer and protecting the innocent is not the real agenda of our government.

In my state, Michigan, the unemployment offices have people working as "Hispanic Liaisons" to help those who don't speak English find jobs. Payed for with income taxes withheld from the unemployment benefits of US citizens.

The people who argue for giving legal status to illegal immigrants are usually:

1) clueless, well-off liberals who do not live in the communities that have been seriously negatively affected by illegal immigration and so do not believe that there is a problem, and also believe that anyone who is poor and nonwhite should be defended as a matter of course, no matter what they've done.

2) illegal immigrants themselves, represented by their racist organizations, such as "La Raza" (which, according to friends of mine from Colombia, is every bit as racist as it seems)

The United States, like every other nation, has immigration laws. To break those laws and then accuse Americans of being "racist" or "immoral" when they resist is nothing less than emotional blackmail. The fact is that amnesty was already given once, in 1986. That resulted in millions more flaunting our law and forcing their way into the country. Enough is enough. These people are responsible for their behavior. They are not children. They are not victims. They are people who know very well what they are doing, and who are very savvy about playing on the American liberal sensibility. And who would resist mightily if 20 million Americans illegally flooded the borders of their own nations. I am sick to death of being manipulated, as are millions of other Americans.
