The Denver Nuggets hosted the Los Angeles Lakers last night in a rematch of the 2009 Western Conference Finals. During the final moments of the Nuggets' comfortable 105-79 victory over the defending champions, Denver point guard Ty Lawson drove towards the basket and unleashed a spectacular dunk on Lakers center D.J. Mbenga and forward Josh Powell. Lawson, a rookie drafted 18th overall in June, is just 5'11", but still managed to bulldoze the 6'9" Powell and 7'0" Mbenga.

I've seen better drunks, but still impressive nonetheless.

This might just be a stunt that the Lakers didn't attempt to defend. It was still as much fun to watch as the shows Spud Webb or Mookie Wilson used to put on.

Not a travel. He ends his dribble when his left foot is on the ground, then takes two steps, taking off of his left foot, and dunks it cleanly. Two steps after the dribble is allowed when driving to the basket.

So the little guy throws down a dunk in garbage time. Its not like anybody was playing defense. And this is news? Oh please.

Yeah this dunk was OK, not that exciting. I was LMAO off at that announcer though, "That was against the Law...Son!" Seriously, no Sports announcer should ever speak unless if it's Stuart Scott. By the way, Vince Carter's dunk over Alonzo Mourning a couple of years ago was WAY better then this. Don't believe me, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HnWXmMsioA

Both Carolina players.

UNC players tend to do really well in the pros.

Never have liked Kobe, even if he does speak spanish, italian, and french, so it was with pleasure that I enjoyed the beating they got at the hands of the Nuggets. Punk Ron Artest was signed specifically for the purpose of shutting down the high scoring Carmelo Anthony but he failed miserably and Kobe kept looking like he realized that father time was on his hip. Glad to see the new "three-step" rule for the NBA in action. Seems like all the players were taking the 3-step in years past anyways. Derek Fisher, Odom, and the rotating shift of centers, have never been talent and without greats supporting them and Kobe they don't stand a chance.

That was a humiliating game for the Lakers. It was all downhill after the 2nd Q.

DJ Benga is a big guy, as big as Shaq, but he sure lacks the defensive power of him.

Media sheep flocking to the latest fad - the power dunk. They milked Wade's 'destruction' of Anderson Varajao for a couple of days and had to find a new clip. Just two little problems:

1) Lawson didn't destroy anybody - he made a good move to find an open lane to the rim. But that isn't nearly as good a story, is it?

2) Wade didn't destroy anybody either. Varajao's signature defensive move is falling backward on contact, to try to get the charge call, which he often does. Its how he plays the game. But that isn't nearly as good a story, is it?

A meaningless dunk in garbage time against bench players who really didn't care.

Big woop.

And he traveled anyway.

Didn't see a hint of defense. I'd rather see a beautiful assist to an uncontested layup any day. The absence of team play here is a metaphor for life in our time. As Al McGuire would say " To score is human, to assist is divine".
Still, he did get up there. And they beat the Lakers BIG.
