Chocolate is beneficial when it's dark, ie made with at least 70% cocoa butter, and eaten in reasonable quantities, ie not American quantities. Everything in moderation!

According to Nestle. I'm guessing that's not Marion Nestle.

BTW, has anyone heard about Coca Cola's new cure for cancer?

It's Coca Cola.

Chocolate bears a group of alkaloids (tetrahydro-beta-carbolines) that are narcotic (addictive) and toxic.

Among many others, Tomas Herraiz (Spanish Council for Scientific Research scientist) showed the same alkaloids are linked to alcoholism and influence, troublously, both mood and behavior.

Note that the "researchers" work for one of the two largest producers of chocolate products. Biased research.

"Unfortunately for chocolate lovers, chocolate's high content of stearic acid puts it in the same category of risk of coronary disease as meat and butter -- i.e., pathogenic!" -- American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

"...chocolate contains a high amount of stearic acid, a saturated fat, and saturated fats are directly linked to elevated LDL cholesterol levels and to increased risks of coronary artery disease and coronary death. Chocolate supporters claim that stearic acid isn't like other saturated fats. Yet, in the Nurses' Health Study Involving more than 80,000 women over 14 years, the saturated fat in chocolate was shown to increase the risk of coronary heart disease by as much or even more than other, proven-harmful saturated fats.3

Stearic acid also appears to reduce the protective HDL and may increase tendencies toward fibrin and plaque deposition in the development of atherosclerosis. Based on these and other findings, a 1999 editorial in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded: "Unfortunately for chocolate lovers, chocolate's high content of stearic acid puts it in the same category of risk of coronary disease as meat and butter -- i.e., pathogenic!"4

Let's put chocolate's "benefits" into perspective. First, you can get similar antioxidants from almost any other plant-based foods. Vegetables, fruits, and whole grains are much better sources of antioxidants, and also contain many other healthful nutrients."

I have a gut reaction to a study that Nestle has done! It inhibits LDL oxidation.

Review: Health Effects of Cocoa Flavonoids

"Flavonoids are phenolic substances widely found in fruits and vegetables. Many epidemiological studies associate the ingestion of flavonoids with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancer. These effects are due to the physiological activity of flavonoids in the reduction of oxidative stress, inhibiting low-density lipoproteins (LDL) oxidation and platelet aggregation, acting as vasodilators in blood vessels, inhibiting the adherence of monocytes to the vascular endothelium, promoting fibrinolysis, acting as immunomodulators and anti-inflammatory agents and as inhibitors in the different phases of tumour process. Cocoa is an important source of polyphenols, which comprise 12-18% of its total weight on dry basis; the major phenolic compounds are epicatechin, proanthocyanidins and cate-chin. The levels of flavonoids contained are higher than the ones founds in apples, onions or wine, foods known for their high amount of phenolic compounds. Cocoa and cocoa products are important sources of flavonoids in our diet."
