JOHANNESBURG — Police say a South African woman has survived after carjackers threw her off a nearly 200-foot (60-meter)-tall bridge.

Police Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said Monday that no arrests have been made although four suspects were questioned and released.

The South African Press Association says Kavisha Seevnarain was carjacked and then forced at gunpoint to go to ATMs to take out money. The 26-year-old was thrown off a bridge south of Durban early Saturday.

SAPA reports she suffered seven broken ribs and a fractured pelvis from the fall and was spotted by a passer-by.

South Africa has one of the world's highest rates of violent crime and is struggling to control it before next year's World Cup, when about 500,000 visitors are expected.

Nahh.., it wouldn't be fair to throw those poor carjackers off the bridge. What they deserve is a fair trial and then thrown off the bridge (orr.., taken out and shot)

Man, that's bad news bears. I'm glad the lady wasn't hurt more severely. You see, it wasn't the 200 feet's to fall, it was that sudden stop at the water that caused the damage.

It's a great place. I'm Australian and I've taken my family there on holidays twice. Last time I took my 13 year old son on a stroll around Soweto. We had a fantastic time. I'm not denying that there are dangers but I remember New York in 1988. Now it's one of the safest cities in the US.

I had a friend who worked in major SA cities for a while, and said that no one, absolutely no one, walks alone, especially women. She and a friend walked two short blocks form the bus to work, and apparently, everyone at work started telling them never to do that, even as a pair. When going out at night, someone would have to drive, because you can't go alone. This was just a few years ago.

It is one thing to car jack someone's car. Another to try to kill them!

No arrests made? The carjacking murderers will become even bolder!

A fitting punishment would be to throw those F'in carJackels off a 1000 ft bridge.

Exactly one week ago today my 28-year-old daughter was car jacked, at gun point, by two men. She drove her car into a metal fence to get rid of them. They fled on foot, but not before one of them punched her in the eye and gave her the worst looking eye I've ever seen. Needless to say my family is grateful that the eye was her only physical injury. She is experiencing panic attacks and yesterday was the first time she's been out of the her house, since it happened. She went to a Dolphins' game with her father.
There is no safety anywhere in the world any longer.

I live in Palm Beach Gardens, which is about 85 miles north of Miami in Palm Beach County. The incident happened in West Palm Beach while she was on her lunch break...She was grabbed outside of a Boston Market...in broad daylight. As the economy worsens the US will more and more resemble Mexico I fear.

A human being miraculously survives a terrifying experience, suffering 7 broken ribs and a cracked pelvis, and your response is a joke? - an extremely obscure one at that. I don't get it though your other respondee seems to have.

Yes my response was a joke. Human being often joke about tragedy it is part of how we can cope with the incredible amount of suffering in the world.

There was a recent South African film about the conflict between humans and aliens, nicknamed the Prawn. That's the reference. And it will be neither the first nor last time someone makes a joke about violence. I think a lot of readers are simply happy that this woman survived against the odds of a 200 foot fall.
