Precious

Lionsgate's new release, "Precious," is a powerful film that centers around the transformative journey of 16-year-old Claireece "Precious" Jones. The trials and tribulations of Precious growing up in 1980s Harlem, from mental and physical abuse to extreme poverty, are overcome by her empowerment through education, writing and literacy.

Tonic reports that to promote the film's message and raise money for a worthy cause, Lionsgate has partnered with Everybody Wins! USA, a national literacy and mentoring nonprofit that foster skills and a love of reading among low-income elementary students, and TwitCause, which promotes social causes and nonprofits on Twitter.

Every time Twitter users include the hashtag #Read2Kids in a tweet from now until Wednesday, November 18, Lionsgate will match one dollar per tweet, up to $1,000. TwitCause is designed to raise awareness and drive donations for social issues and nonprofits by inviting followers to tweet and retweet about worthy causes and campaigns.

Everybody Wins aims to bridge the literacy gap by bringing in volunteer mentors into schools for one-on-one weekly read-aloud sessions. The organization serves nearly 20,000 children and adults in 16 states and Washington, DC.

I see your point, but I think the article is more about the charity than the movie. . . I believe it's an unintended oversight.

More importantly, let's see if they can remember her name when the award nominations start.
