Wall Street Protest

bloomberg.com:

In the 14 years I've written columns for Bloomberg News, I've had plenty of feedback from investors who said they lost money at the hands of corrupt brokers, plus a steady stream of vitriol from financial executives who say I'm clueless, stupid, and deserve to lose my job.

I have never, though, been bombarded with anything like the fury and frustration expressed this time by people far removed from Wall Street, ranging from computer programmers to administrative assistants to the caretaker of an estate. Typically a handful of e-mails will float in; this time the number topped 60 and counting.

The last paragraph of the article tells you all the truth that needs to be known: the wealthy OWNS Washington and doesn't give a sh*t what anyone thinks about it because they are getting away with it in broad daylight. I'm really losing faith not only in our government (which is showing just how corrupt it is now) and the people of this country. My god, WHERE is the outrage? Where are the protests?? Why isn't every politician in Washington scared to death for their safety?? I have absolutely NO faith in Obama (who I voted for). I think he has failed us so miserably it's not even funny. The bailouts Wall Street is getting, the MASSIVE tax rebated the major homebuilders just got last week thanks to a ton of lobbying, some sneaky Congressmen and Obama's pen, the auto industry bailouts (for running bad businesses for 20+ years), is maddening. MADDENING! I'm hoping a people's revolution is close to fruition. Because what's going on now is disgusting and cannot continue if the rest of us want normal, fair lives.

I don't blame Wall Street. Wall Street is doing what Wall Street is supposed to do. Makeing money, anyway possible. It is our government that has made it possible to make money with "innovative" smoke and mirrors. Black box investments, where money goes in, and money comes out, and no one knows what's inside. Time for the SEC to take a look at what's inside. When Wall Street can no longer invest in castles made of sand, they will invest in companies that produce goods and services that are valuable to society. That's when jobs will start to magicly appear. If you or I were borkers we would probaly do the same, let's face it. Take away the option. Make sure that brokers make money the old fashion way, earn it.

They think they've seen anger? Well, if more people in America feel like this guy (see link below), things will get worse for The Street's PR image. And, as a handsome 38-year-old stockbroker and bailout recipient, this worries me.

I'm curious.

Let's just say that McCain won in '08.

What would Johnny Boy have done different than what Obama has done?

As a handsome 38-year-old stockbroker, I must say "right on." Both parties are bought and paid for by me and my buddies on Wall Street.

And we've gotten a pretty good deal. Whether it's George W. Bush or President Barack Obama, both our my friends.

As a handsome 38-year-old stockbroker, I must let you all know that the anger is unprecidented because me and my fellow "Streeters" did our best to include every clueless granny in the investment game. Ever hear of the 401(k)? We needed some fresh cash because the experts were too savvy to sucker in.

This time around, the middle class is vested in Wall Street. But, I must say it's worth their anger if it means I get their money.

Has anyone seen my brandy snifter? Or bailout receipt?

To my friends on the conservative side of the spectrum - we have here a prime opportunity to conjoin our rage and address a problem I think we all find equally abhorrent. If only in this case, can we put aside our partisan notions (there's more than enough blame in this case to go around) and join together to demand that our government clamp down on these Wall Street thieves? Instead of screaming that it's all Obama's fault, or Bush's, or Clinton's or Reagan's fault, perhaps we should recognize that politicians of all stripes had a hand in allowing the finance industry's pillaging of our national economy. This is America - we have soldiers' families struggling while our tax dollars are underwriting sickening and wholly undeserved bonuses and salaries for a cynical and self-indulgent few.

"WE are the people WE have been waiting for." -- Obama

And it's true. We've been anesthetized for 8 years and now is our awakening. We don't like what we see, and we shouldn't, because it's ugly, folks.

It's about time we got fired up. Power of the people - and if we harness it correctly we can get things done in this country. Otherwise it's going to be more of the same, and we'll only have ourselves to blame.

There's a problem with Wall Street? What? How can that be? Obama says everything's just ducky.

Wall Street bankrupted this country and has yet to face justice...many should be getting jail terms.

As a 50 something, I remember when we had the savings and loan crisis. People went to jail.

When World Com and Enron collapsed, again -people went to jail.

I have yet to hear, other than Maddoff, of why charges can not be brought up.

The only reason I can imagine is that bringing down the financial system is not a crime-or at least one that can be charged and proven.

Thus, there must be no detriment to their actions.

did anybody read that the jobless benefits bill included provisions for homebuilders to spread recent losses against profits over the last four years? this makes me sick. they pay a lobbyist $200k to reap a $400m refund.

I am not absolving the current or former presidents in this matter, nor our crooked malignant Congress, but its time for the people of mainstreet and the homeless shelters to stand up to the wall street aristocracy and take back the nation's wealth by the new year- angry mob style. Now, that would send a message for 2010.

The government has a genuine choice here and the O administration seems to be missing the point. Too many wall streeters in his administration has made O tone deaf too. If the gov steps up and holds some serious trials and gives the public the perp walks that it deserves they will settle down. Most americans rightly or wrongly think free markets work, and once they see the law upheld they will work for the rest. But, barring that, the administration needs to realize that the illegality has gone too far. The pain of the peasant class has gotten to difficult to bear. Wall Street needs to cough up some money and some scapegoats, and soon.

Unless Obama gets rid of Summers, Geithner and all the other Wall St. minions from his government, there will be no recovery and no trust in the financial system.

Without the Wall Street minions there is no Obama administration. Obama's just a bump in the road for the corporate feudalism juggernaut. And he sure ain't gonna' be no "tank man".

I voted for Obama as the lesser of two evils. Turned out to be as not as much less as I hoped. It could be a whole lot worse, and likely will be.

I'm not going to say "before it gets better", because it ain't never gonna get better.

The kleptocrats win every time, 'cause they got the money to rig the rules.
