guardian.co.uk:

Evangelicals are the bedrock of the Republican party and are often seen as skeptical of science, from global warming to evolution. So the initiative's core argument is: if evangelicals can find it in their hearts to support action on climate change, why can't senators have a similar conversion?

Here is a list of 32,000 scientists, 9,000 of which have PhD's, who claim global warming is a total falsehood and a hoax.

Sorry, these folks are just being played by the Banksters.

The Bills in congress are Bankster Playground bills, not climate bills.

They give 50B$ and more subsidies to coal and nukes.

and 2 B$ peanuts to the two technologies that can actually provide the green energy we need:

3 cent rooftop solar and Waste BioChar: cheaerp, safe, clean and forever.

See my profile for proof and links.

what we need is to plow 4T$ into rooftop solar and waste biochar.

That will eliminate coal oil and nukes and save the USA 1T$ per year in oil imports and wars to protect oil.

Okey-dokey then ... the evangelicals are praying ... we can all rest easy now!

While they're on their knees, maybe they should put in a little request for some critical thinking skills too!

Yup that was not lost on me, they are a buncha HYPOCRITES, still opposing birth control and abortion and the pill and other methods of contraception. When they get over their obsession with women controlling their wombs and the number of children they CHOOSE to have, then I might change my mind.

I would have to say that when a portion of a religiously conservative group decides collectively to break with conventional views, then we ought also at least not ridicule them and see it as a positive. After all, we keep asking how can a group think in such a minimalistic or slanted view, in the face of science, and when a fraction of them do voice support of an issue that is outside their narrow conventional beliefs, then I say good for them. That sort of places the politicians that supposedly oppose science, in a bind. When their arguments begin to be challenged by the very group they propose to support. Pol's are using the Rel Rt, in order to protect certain industries, but if more people speak up, then Politicians loose ground. Or are we a group of people that refuses to allow for change even in those who's view we have disagreed. I see it as developmental growth within a group that has historically kept to a very old script. When people evolve, we ought not knock them. They're also pulling the argument out from under the Ivanhoe's etc in DC.

That's the problem. We just don't pray enough. If everyone in the world would just wished harder everything would made right.

What a wonderful idea .. Just PRAY for global warming legislation and expect God to help out, but don't bother actually doing anything (like telling their GOP Representatives to vote it in to legislation).

I don't understand why so many here are such critics of these guys. I'm glad for the help, myself.

The fact is that there are all types of Christians out there. Unfortunately, the only ones we've heard about in this country for the last many decades have been the ultra right god-fearing, war-loving, god gave us the earth to do with what we wish, type. Now we have some who are making their voices heard and feel that god gave them his creation to watch over. They couldn't have come at a better time, imo, and they will ultimately be the ones who convince the more conservative Congresspersons (if anyone does), not the scientists and liberals.

Sure we don't see eye to eye on many other issues, but anytime we do, we should embrace that and run with it.

Any religious person who truly believes that we should care for the Earth is cool in my book.

I'm with you. We should welcome any support. New converts to the fold can only help.

Wow, adherents of an irrational faith based belief system who don't have a clue, pray to end global warming, who da thunk?

"MMGM"? Man Made God Myth? Or, are you talking about Man Made Global Warming (MMGW)?

As there seems to be tons of authorities on both sides of this important subject, I propose that we use our rational minds. Humans pump millions of tons of not only CO2, but methane, CFCs and industrial chemicals into the atmosphere each year and it's only getting worse with China and India becoming more industrialized.

Not only do these pollutants (the industrial chemicals, not CO2) cause environmental problems (whether you believe the cause warming or not), they also cause severe health problems. Ever hear of smog? Go to any big city in China if you haven't. Cutting back drastically on what WE pump into the atmosphere can ONLY HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT on both our shared planet and our health. Rational thinking?

Wait a minute, this contradicts the belief that many evangelicals hold with respect to end of time. Global warming and the rapid degradation of the environment ushers in the speedy return of the "$avior" to rap.ture them to heaven without their clothes.

Oops, I was thinking "petition the Lord with prayer" - thought you were referring to that Doors song.

This reminds me of the story of the Good Skeptic:

Once an unemployed auto worker asked an Evangelical for help finding a job. "I'm too busy saving souls," he said. Next, the ex-GM employee asked a climate scientist for help finding work. "I'm much too busy saving the planet," was the reply. On hearing these responses, a global warming skeptic stepped forward and offered to give the man a job growing the economy. He didn't live happily ever after, but earning a living again sure felt good.
