Bill Moyers

Bill Moyers is leaving weekly television.

The New York Times' Elizabeth Jensen reports that the PBS newscaster is retiring from his Friday night program, "Bill Moyers Journal," on April 30, 2010.

"Bill Moyers Journal" launched in April 2007.

Jensen reports that it was Moyers' intention to retire at Christmas this year, but PBS asked him to stay on through April to help raise funds.

"I am 75 years old," Moyers told Jensen. "I feel it's time."

I find it interesting, if not predictable, that Bill O'Reilly was all too anxious to accept that xenophobe Lou Dobbs left CNN voluntarily - while contradicting all credible reports about Bill Moyers reason for leaving.

He is suggesting that because Moyer's interview with Reverend Wright and other liberal endeavors he has angered PBS brass and is being forced out.

God Blessd You Bill Moyers, and I hope that the gifts you gave us will be available forever, so that future generations understand that there were once thinking people in this nation, who cared.

He will be missed, but if it was me, I would have retired a long time ago. There is life after retirement.

He will be missed like a bad tooth ache. He waited 20 years too long to leave.

Spoken like a person who has never watched his show, or was too stupid to understand it, or both.

A conscientious moral person who only seeks the truth, Bill Moyers is the kind of journalist we need more of in this country. What's the problem with him? He cares about his profession and shows the real issues concerning the people of this country without demagogueing on those issues?

Did you ever watch?

You absolutely have my vote for the most nonsensical comment of the day - Bill Moyers =KO???

Have you ever even watched either of them? How can you compare them - just because they are both liberals? While I agree with them both on a myriad of issues, they are not the same.

If you get the chance I highly suggest you watch Bill Moyers interviews with the late Joseph Campbell. Life changing.
kath1y   11:36 PM on 11/22/2009
I saw those. The series was called "The Power of Myth". Like a course in comparative religion, wonderfully informative and wonderfully entertaining. Bill Moyers was like the smart kid in class who asked the best questions. He pulled Professor Campbell's genius out and helped us understand world religions better than anyone could have.

Absolutely. Campbell's lifelong study and published works show how closely humans are connected through spirit and the need to understand who we are. Myths and rituals (such as coming of age rites) are historically valuable or even vital parts of humanity, now lost or misunderstood in today's world. Moyers introduced Campbell to millions, enriching lives and offering evidence of the importance and history of shared humanity.
