Right-Wing Talkers Obsessed With Rape

One of the things that's obviously under-appreciated about right-wing radio and television is the way hosts wield this awesome variety of artful metaphors about the state of the nation.

In this new mashup video from Media Matters, however, you really see the full measure of their rhetorical brilliance, as various figures from the fringe calmly and with clear heads describe the RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE RAPE of various things: the nation, the poor, the Statue of Liberty. Michael Savage drops a strange little "rape missing children missing children rape" hip hop verse, and Glenn Beck channels Roman Polanski (Glenn's very topical!). Meanwhile, the human cost of actual rapes continue to outpace the cost of fictional rapes that happen in people's minds.

So, Xanax for everybody, maybe?

They have made themselves so irrelevant to current issues that they are trying to engage you on a visceral level. Rape is a heinous crime, so is false accusation­, and the racial element ios here as well.

The small town of Rosewood Fla. was burned to the ground and men women and children murdered because a black man was accused or raping a white woman.

The idea of a black man, (Black president) assaulting a white woman is the clarion call of the die hard bigot! Nothing raises such violent anger and quick action.

History in America is chock full of these incidents, and these guys are tapping into that vein.

This is sedition, and inciting violence on a grand scale, literally millions hear this message, and many look no where else for their informatio­n or world view.

Yet when it comes to conservati­ve politician­s voting so that rape victims don't sign away their legal rights - they're completely against that. So let's say it's "rape" when it's fake, but when there are actual victims of rape, we make the justice system harder for them.

He didn’t, but it is certainly true that he might have, and that is the basis of a satirical online campaign which aims to demonstrat­e how dangerous the faux-journ­alism, circular logic, and vague accusation­s of Beck and other pundits are. Using their own technique against them.

All I can say is "How dare they?" This is a hateful and self-absor­bed, dangerous rhetoric, minimizing the real trauma and horror of the women and men who are raped each day - the disgusting audacity to compare actual rape to the slight discomfort of watching things change. It takes the term 'rape' with its heavily sexual and violent connotatio­ns - oh, yeah, the subjects that titillate so many American audiences - and warps its meaning to somehow apply to finances, to self-pity. How dare they?
