Mayer

John Mayer has blamed the media for preventing him from having as much sex as he deserves, and today he continues to discuss his fascination with people who are out to get him. He covers December's Details and inside a profile entitled 'John Mayer Thinks With His Pick' issues a challenge to the haters:

"What if I had a booth on the street and I said, 'Attention, everybody who hates me: If you have a problem with me, I'm ready to hear your gripes! I will be outside the Barneys store on 60th Street from two to four this afternoon. I will not be speaking to fans. I will only be speaking to people who do not like me. Come out and let me have it. I will not speak back.'

"How many people do you think would be standing there? I'm talking about people getting the chance to tell me directly, 'I think you're a douchebag.' You know how many people would do it? Ze-ro. You know what they'd do? They'd walk up and say, 'I'm just messin' with ya.' And you know what I'd say? I'd say, 'You're a douchebag!'"

Mayer also talks about maturing into "musical tenure," not being Bob Dylan and bonding with Gerard Butler over being mislabeled as a Hollywood cad.

John Mayer is truly a study in current event economics. I have no doubt that he is a savvy marketer that know hows to "work a room." College professors could advance their curriculum by studying the market that has become "John Mayer."

I was a Mayer fan from the early days , back when "Room for Squares" was a joke. i thought there was more to that fresh face and those engaging lyrics. I thought Mr. Mayer was really of the ilk of people that could usher in a new era of understanding between the sexes. He seemed to find a true mix between the angst of male sexuality and the anxiety of female desire.

Boy was I wrong.

Since then I have come to know that Mayer is nothing more than a publicity stunt..he does what he has to do in order to sell an album. His word fall short, his "tall tale" is lean in the telling and he simply leaves people (both men and women) simply unsatisfied.....like an orgasm that never flowered.

I no longer listen to Mr. Mayer. He has shown himself to be a joke and a characture. of what he could have been.

Is John Mayer the John Gosselin of the music industry? He seems to be always making the news for no apparent reason. Of course he appears to be rather smart (and compared to JG more so), but one would assume that if he had *some* decency (not a lot, some) he would try to lay low for a while. Maybe he should try to write a song or two, it's not like he has more than one song that people can remember...

John! This is not a big problem! Just let it slide, people love you, they love your music. Be happy with that because there will always be haters.

I wouldn't have a problem approaching him and telling him he is a dbag. Thank God he isn't the only musician on the planet, if he was I would have blown my brains out long ago.

I saw him play a concert on some TV show. The guy is a really good muscan. No doubt about it. But he is also a self-important blowhard. It's a unique juggling act I must say.

Hmmmm -- no chance at all that these comments are all well-constructed irony?

This kid seems just a shade more intellectual than these hordes of rabid detractors give him credit for.....

He's thin-skinned and young. I can relate. It took me years to get to a point where I could stop caring so much about the people who DON'T like me and focus more on the people who DO.

The irony, of course, is that the more attention someone in a spotlight gives to those who dislike him, the more those people focus on him. Turn away from them, and the glare of their spotlight lessens.

I have, of course, worded this poorly, but the point should be pretty clear.

Close your legs, or cut it off, you have little self discipline.

"I'll never let your head hit the bed without my hand behind it," and "If you want to make love, we'll make it . . . break all your big plans, this is bound to be a while."

The most terrible lyrics ever.
