I thought all the photos were beautiful except the orangutan, and that one was truly heartbreaking.

I agree, TigersEye. It was jarring.

I love the pictures and have to agree with hilaritee that the orangatun tugs at my heart.

that photo of the orangutan is so sad and haunting. he looks like a tired working stiff who longs for a more fulfilling job or a way out.

Absolutely brilliant! I've tried my hand at photography, but never managing anything nearly as breathtaking as this.

Yes, it's hard to make a good photo when you only use text on your site.

Same old NG stuff. Nothing vivid. I've forgotten them all already. The frozen monkey in water is a cliche going on its third decade.

Your post is a thoughtful reflection of your lack of talent in both literary and artistic circles.

Same old same old, from NG. Talk to me in 20 years when these cliches all blur together for you too.

The Louisiana lightening strike is perhaps not the best of the photographs, but it is the wittiest.

My best friend and long-time ex, who is 3rd generation pure Japanese-Ameican, traveled to Japan to meet his long-lost relatives and they visited one of the mountain resort towns where the wild monkeys bask in the warmth of the hot springs even as the falling snow flakes cap the tops of their heads, just like the human tourists who pay top dollar for the privilege. He told me that they were advised by the hotel, even though they were paying large sums to stay there, it is wise to give the monkeys the right of way - if one or more decides to enter one of the hot springs, humans should move on because the sweet looking, almost tame acting little creatures aren't that big on sharing their space with humans. No one seemed to complain as the sight of the monkeys coming down to luxuriate in the warm waters was almost as enjoyable as the warmth of the springs themselves.

The snow monkey reminds me of one of the opening scenes in "Baraka", awesome movie, watch it if you have never seen it.

I vote the opposite. The snow monkey is the most impressive of the photographs.

I have to agree. The motive seems a little too familiar. I vote for the photo of the Orang Utan. Such a haunting picture!

From and artistic point of view Number four is the best . Nature's masterpiece painting. The orangutan from the human angle touches one soul.

Reply     Favorite     Flag as abusive Posted 02:10 PM on 11/24/2009

the orangutan is certainly the most moving, and heartbreaking. animals are not here for our entertainment.

The photographer's comments for the Orangutan disturb me most. As if they didn't even realize what torture that animal endured and will for it's entire sad life. "As we waited for the Orangutan to perform..." What were you doing there supporting the business making a living off of this. If we don't pay they don't make a living they don't make them perform. Pretty simple.

The animal cruelty that goes on in this world wrenches my soul. Replace that with photos of the many humans who work for 30+ years in jobs they hate and despise and my soul cries even more.

the Orangutan was really sad--and the lightning strike was funny, or the caption about it was!!!

I liked the Snow monkey, these were great shots, too bad some do not care about preserving the environment.
