Activists Get Naked And Cover Themselves In Fake Blood To Protest Fur (VIDEO, NSFW)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:45 PM ET

On Sunday, anti-fur activists in Madrid lay naked in the streets, covered in fake blood to mirror the corpses of minks and other animals killed for their fur. Despite the fact that it was rainy and about 42 degrees, this large crowd stripped down to get their point across.

The following clip contains some NSFW nudity.

Quick Poll

What do you think of this protest?

Right on! It's certainly effective.

Makes me squeamish, but it gets the point across.

I'm so tired of animal rights antics!

Every person who writes that seems to think they are original and witty. I can just imagine them sniggering behind their computer screen, "Tee hee! I made a funny! Look mommy! I made a funny!" it's tired and old already, never been clever...

Listen hippies, just accept the fact that you are at the top of the food chain. Its natural. You don't see other animals in the food chain crying about why daddy eats bambi. Fur coats keep mink from going extinct. The simple fact is if you want to save species from extinction you have to either eat them or wear them. The people start to cultivate them. Bring back the ivory trade and Americans will farm elephants.

I'd say rapidly mutating viruses are at the top of the food chain.

That's true. Viruses are the only living thing with no natural predators.

Oh wait, they aren't even living, and they are killed en masse by the immune system of every animal. They aren't really even part of the food chain, let alone are they at the top of it.

You bring up the idea of the food chain as if we were merely mechanical parts of it like a lion. But what you fail to address is that we transcend the food chain. We choose and while we did evolve in a certain way, the conditions have changed and we can decide to be compassionate or not.
If this and other demonstrations by Peta don't affect your consciousness, then fine. However, if you really observe and experience fur production or factory meat production, I am confident that you would be sickened and horrified and you would make different choices and statements.
