Texas Octogenarians Volunteer Thousands Of Hours To Support Burdened Families

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Sharing Life Community Outreach has been operating for ten years helping families under financial stress in Mesquite, Texas. According to executive director Teresa Jackson, the most active and helpful volunteers are two octogenarians who've given more than 8,000 hours of their time in recent years.

88-year-old Sammie Coats and 83-year-old Dorothy Compton work as clothing distributors and donation collectors between five and seven days every week. Jackson says the organization couldn't survive without them.
