Bachmann

The Minnesota Independent :

In 2008, Rep. Michele Bachmann's district had the highest number of foreclosures in Minnesota and the highest rate of foreclosures. Now, as 2009 draws to a close, that trend continues. According to new data from HousingLink and county sheriffs' offices, the Sixth Congressional District is being disproportionately impacted by the foreclosure crisis despite its representative's reticence to vote for foreclosure relief legislation...

Just another example of a politician who is more interested in the limelight than she is doing what she is supposed to be there for - REPRESENTING the people who put her in there in the first place.

I guess she and Palin have a lot in common.

* Big mouths that speak with little thought or content.
* Desire for the limelight
* Don't care about the people they represent
* 5 kids

H'm we could add Liz Cheney to that except she was not an elected official although she did screw up royally when she was in George II's Administration courtesy of Daddy.

If the system is truly by the people for the people... why can't the people whom she represents do something about her? ...

people get the government they deserve sometimes
her district must be like the Titanic with no life boats
no chance for relief until next election cycle in 2010

I wonder how many of her supporters don't have homes or insurance, but still want to vote for her or some other GOPer who toes the party line.

Am I understanding this correctly- The people who voted Bachmann into office are sufferring the effects of her disasterous decisions/ ideals and are losing their homes?

What would be an appropiate cliche - You reap what you sow or the chickens have come home to roost?

Bachmann for the most part has been a annoyance to many citizens of the this nation, but she is a liability to the citizens of Minnesota. Its unfortunate that this lesson came at such a high price for simply having blind faith in Bachmann. The voters of Minnesota should have made a conscious effort to actually learn about relevant issues and made actual informed decisions.

We should all use this as a wake up call. Every vote counts, we must all do our part to learn as much as we can and understand the consequences of our decisions.

yes, people that did not pay their bills lost their homes...........how about pay the bills you have and stop griping about what you want a politician to do about your problem
11:13 AM on 12/02/2009
I don't have any problems. Well, except for angry baffoons who vent in comments fields like yourself.

You are a perfect example of my main point for people to make informed decisions. You know nothing about me, yet you felt compelled to post your little small minded rant.

There are many who took loans they could never repay and they should be held accountable. But there are also many suffering collateral damages. Examples include home renters who landlords defaulted on their mortgage. Homeowners who were duped into modifying their homes in one of the many mortgage scams out there, or possibly someone who made the decision to save a loved one's life by paying for medical care and has since filed for bankruptcy.

Once again, simple going with the status quo isn't enough any more, educate yourself with as many facts as you can and learn about different circumstances affecting people.

Whether or not a person is current on loan payments is not a condition prerequisite to have and speak a voice on their elected "representatives" in government.

Might want to take a civic lesson followed by a session on critical thinking. There are many reasons why there are loan defaults today. Some of which do heavily rest on the shoulders of a reckless buyer, but a substantial number of others, are due to various
other factors.

It is those other factors that the elected representatives should be addressing... predatory lending, reckless lending, national job loss problem, national health care cost and dropped coverage problems.

Time to put your teabag down and step away from your simpleton thinking.

All a repub has to do is keep mouthing those fake christian values to the right people and they will vote against their own economic interests. Works every time.

It depends on the circumstances. I worked for a loan officer during the housing bubble so I saw first hand what was going on. I knew the homes were horribly overvalued that's why I didn't try to buy one. And most of our clients were white upper income earners who owed more than what they made but the rules for lending were so lax at the time many loans were approved anyway. And now many of them are trying to walk away without paying the mortgage just because the value of their home dropped. So don't even try to give me any crap about this all being the fault of minorities and low income earners. If people are responsible but something like a bankrupting medical emergency or family tragedy happens then yes they should be helped. But that does not change my position that all repubs have to do is say the magic words "jesus" and "christian" to get votes from people who they really only want to hurt.

There are many things the banks of this country could have done to stem the foreclosures without taking anything from taxpayers. They could modify the loans---there's endless ways this could be done, dropping the principle, or giving a two year loan modification, a chance for folks to get back on their feet.

Instead they have pursued business as usual in a full blown economic crisis. The victims have not only been those foreclosed upon, but entire neighborhoods that have been gutted by foreclosures, taking thousands in equity from those still there paying their mortage. Once middle class neighborhoods have turned into crime ridden slums.

There is absolutely a better, smarter way to do this.

The worst part of this is that although I believe Bachmann isn't running next time, I think her district would vote for her again, and will find someone equally unqualified and useless to replace her. This woman wasn't elected simply by putting up posters. She had to open her mouth sometime in the campaign. Her district elected her. They are in deep financial trouble. Think they will listen to someone who wants to help them next time? Don't bet on it.

It's patently obvious that Bachmann is more interested in promoting herself to national prominence (why, who knows) instead of representing her constituents. But, that's not our problem, they're the ones who keep electing this _nutjob.

that's good thinking there michele, the constituents that voted you in are on the economic ropes so you vote to deny them any relief. once your cunning plan reaches fruition and your supporters are all driven from your district i'm sure you'll reap your rewards.
