Jewish Nationalists Clash With Palestinians In East Jerusalem (VIDEO)

Bloody clashes have occurred in East Jerusalem after Jewish settlers moved into land formerly occupied by Palestinians.

According to the BBC, the issue of who owns the land in the neighborhood Sheik Jarrah has been in question:

The house is one of a group of properties which both Palestinian and Jewish families claim to own. Israeli courts have recently ruled in favour of the Jewish claims in some of the cases.

The New York Times offers more details, stating that the building had belonged to a family headed by Refka al-Kurd, 87.

The Kurds' home is adjacent to a site held by Jews to be the ancient tomb of Shimon Hatzadik, or Simeon the Just, a Jewish high priest from the days of the Second Temple. A Jewish organization reclaimed the land around the tomb based on property deeds which date back to the 1870s. The Palestinians claim the deeds were forged.

The Times reports that blood splattered the ground after the violence when a Jewish man was injured, and later a Palestinian woman had to be taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack.
