AP:

NEW YORK - Porsche Cars North America Inc. said Tuesday that its November sales increased 18 percent compared to the same month last year on stronger sales of its Cayman model.

BY THE NUMBERS: Porsche said U.S. sales were 1,626 in November, compared with 1,378 in the same month last year. However, sales dropped overall to 17,578 in the first 11 months of the year, compared with 23,881 for the same period in 2008.

HOT MODELS: Sales of the Porsche Cayman sports coupe jumped to 88 in November, more than double the number sold in November of 2008. But overall sales of the Cayman fell to 881 so far this year, compared with 1,312 in the same month last year.

I don't own a Porsche and I don't want to, but I am glad they exist. ( I do own a SAAB and I wish they would continue to exist.) If we outlawed (or just slapped a big tax on ) high performance cars, fancy watches, jewelry, fashionable cloths etc., the result would be just what we saw when the government put a large tax on boats. A lot of boat manufacturers either closed or downsized, putting a lot of people out of work.

The fancy stuff is a great way to recycle the funds.

Dr. Ferdinand is probably spinning in his grave at about 5,800 RPM for your misspelling his name.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...people with no jobs, no money, staring soulfully through the dealership window, caressing their bricks with great affection...

I'm not surprised that the socalists are going crazy about this. Leave Porsche alone, don't be hatin' because you can't afford one.

A year ago, for Thanksgiving, it was the special occasion of my sister's move-in to her Katrina-replacement home - perhaps 30 miles inland and 160' higher - and I thought I'd do something special for the occasion. So, I took my '69 911 out of the living room and drove it half-way across the USA. Along the way, I lost a tire weight and while looking for a wheel-shop to re-balance the tire, I stumbled across a Porsche dealership instead. ...A customer offered me 40K for the car on the spot, and when I turned it down, I got another, higher offer from someone else. In the end, the dealer offered me a brand new Cayman - "any one you want on the lot!" ( and they had over 20 of them!) - with the fancy 7 speed formula 1 transaxle and all the other trick features, straight trade for the '69 911...

I turned them down, of course!

It was only afterward that I realized that I _should_ have asked to take it for a test drive while my wheels were being balanced. But, nomatter, by the time I thought of it I was back up to speed, doing 120 mph across Nevada...

I envy your 69. They stopped making Porsches in 98. I'm not sure what these modern day imposters are.

They should have noted that the increase was due to sales to bank executives!

Now that Obama tacked unemployment benefits he needs to set his focus no on WALL STREET REGULATION and JOBS

good articles; http://financeopinionss.blogspot.com

20% real unemployment combined with record wall street bonuses will give his political enemies plenty of fodder in 2012

Yes, and the Mercedes who think they own the road, and Volvo drivers who are so over-the-top cautious they CAUSE accidents, usually behind them.

No, it is not. The majority of Porsche drivers are people who wanted the car for a long time, sort of like the dot on the I when you are accomplished and have everything. Of course there are others who own one too. I was able to drive a friends Porsche in Germany and it was an amazing feeling to drive and see the white road markings become one straight line... They call it the ultimate driving machine and I think it is true. Living in the US to me seems a waste to own a car when you can not really "let it go".

Let me bottom-line this story for you: 88 people bought a Porsche Cayman in November. I can't think of a less interesting thing to put on the front of the site.

Trickle down economics, millions of bonus compensation money transferred from Wall Street to European manufacturers of luxury goods. These masters of the universe wouldn't touch a Chevy with a ten-foot pole.

If the masters of the universe had the common sense to keep manufacturing and education a high priority in this country, you would probably have much better cars. European manufacturers still have engineers in charge of their companies, not number crunchers who only report to the share holders.
