Boyle

NEW YORK — Move over Beyonce. Step aside Taylor Swift. There's a new queen of pop, and her name is Susan Boyle.

The British talent contestant-turned-singing sensation sold just over 700,000 copies of her debut album, "I Dreamed a Dream," debuting at No. 1. Her record label, Columbia Records, says that not only gives her the best first week sales of 2009, but also the best-selling album debut by a woman in the Billboard SoundScan era.

It's been a whirlwind year for the 47-year-old Boyle, who became an instant star when she appeared on "Britain's Got Talent."

My husband was flipping through the channels last night and came upon the ending of "Rudy" and watched it again for the bazillionth time. It made me think of Susan Boyle and how she is like the "Rudy" for middle-aged women with a dream.

Susan Boyle is a light to the world in times of darkness.

Please, please don't let Susan's handlers ignore her need to live life as a recluse and limit her appearances!!!

Good for her! Did the album release too late for Grammy nominations?
01:20 PM on 12/03/2009
The deadline for the Grammys was August 2009 so she didn't make it for this year. No worries, Ms. Boyle will be around for a long time because the fans have lists as long as an airstrip with songs we'd love to hear her sing! :)

I have always been a fan of Barbara Streisand and she is no beauty. She has always had a lot of makeup artists to help her looks but she is still no beauty. People have asked Barbara in the past why she never got a nose job and she said a plastic surgeon told her it might change her voice. So, why woul she do that?

True music lovers go for the voice, not the sexy looks that the music stars try to have today. Take away all that plastic surgery, and sexy outfits and really listen to the voice, and you might be shocked!

Best one week total. Good for her.

But she has a long way to go to be the best selling female this year.

Worldwide:
1. Madonna ( Celebration) 2 million and counting
2. Whitney Houston (I didn't Know My Own Strength) 1.8 million
3. Lady Gaga (Fame) 1.7 million

All time:

1. Madonna 225 million
2. Celine Dion 200 million

Seconded. I am SO sick and tired of all these no-talent singer wannabe's who shove their cleavage and crotches at your tv screen to try to make up for the fact that their voices have to get autotunned and reverbed to the point that they sound like a 'Transformer' because they have next to no actual SINGING talent when that is their supposed profession, but come across more accurately like pole strippers.

It is SO refreshing to have an actual singer who can SING in the form of Susan Boyle, and who can do it with some actual class without all the usual lewdness we the audience usually have to suffer through with the likes of Beyonce, Shakira, Rihanna, etc. etc.

It's so refreshing to watch this mentally ill, 48 year old woman sucking her thumb in a public place. Makes me feel GREAT!

It would be, if she had any.

Yes, we've got it. You don't need to repeat yourself over and over. You've made it abundantly clear that you don't care for her as a singer. To each their own. So move on and find another post. Can't imagine why someone who leave comment after comment putting her down. Surely you have a life beyond Susan Boyle?
Let the people who do enjoy her voice celebrate her album and success.
Let the old rule apply-if you can't say something nice-then don't say anything at all.
Music is a lot like love...it's in the eye (or ear) of the beholder.

Rhianna, quit trying to hate on Susan Boyle. Take some singing lessons and maybe in 20 - 30 years you can sound just like her
05:11 AM on 12/03/2009
It's nice to see a woman who can actually stand on stage and well "sing"....it's hard to tell anymore as so many "pop star" sounds are brought to you by the magic of post production, it's the audio engineers who are the true pop stars. Many pop stars have to resort to fancy dance numbers in outfits that leave nothing to the imagination because they can't keep the audience's interest with just their voice alone (which more and more are being caught lip syncing these days).
