Huffington Post     First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 03:50 PM ET

Here at HuffPost Green, we're fascinated by critters in all forms. We thought we'd look at them from a new angle with this up-close animal sideshow.

Check it out below!

Coccinellidae (Lady Bug)

The latin name for the lady bug - Coccinellidae - literally means 'little red sphere'. However, these little beauties can also be red, pink, yellow and even black!

Extraordinary visions. I love these macro images. We often get too caught up in the bigger picture of life.

LOL

Yeah, but it's nice to learn they can't be much bigger than they are. The way they are built doesn't permit it. Any bigger, and they'd have to look more like reptiles, or... mammals!

Whew!

Interesting pix. However, if you want to get an even more impressive view of a snail, place a light-colored one on a pane of glass, light it from above and look at it from the other side of the glass. Their method of locomotion on their single "foot" is amazing, with the fluids in their slimy little bodies resembling a slow motion wave machine. When I was in 7th grade and living in south Florida, my science teacher had us sticking snails onto the outside of our classroom windows and running inside to watch for the first half of the class period. Of course, the second half of class was spent washing the slime trails off the windows. Unfortunately, we only have large darkly-colored African snails and banana slugs where I now live in Honolulu, so I don't have an excuse for conning my nieces and nephews into washing my windows.

nice pix. ..and we are nearing an era, nanotechnology, bioengineering and all, that we will be able to completely "govern", control, steer, use these insects and /small/ animals - through controlling their brains.

through remote cellphone signals sent to inserted sensors in their brains.
